In the past, I've sprayed Yard Guard around the front porch in the evenings hoping it would keep the bugs away. But I worry that the people sitting on the porch don't want chemicals sprayed.
This year, I had the idea to put a "help yourself" basket of bug items outside for people to use if they want. I will include Off spray, maybe wipes, Yard Guard.
Have you ever done anything that works better? Other ideas?

We had a guest this weekend who is from an area that still has snow on the ground and she is worried about zika virus so she won't be coming this far 'south' until next winter.
I think it's a good idea to put out stuff that can't be sprayed. Some people will spray everything. (My daughter would use an entire can of Raid to kill one day long legs.) If there are towelettes you can use I think that's a nice touch.
Don't you also have a fan on the porch? That's a good, non invasive technique.

We use Cutter Backyard Bug Control.

You attach it to your hose and spray the yard / plants in the area you want to control. It states it will last for up to 12 weeks but it usually only lasts 1-2 weeks here due to all the rain we get.
Edited to add that we do keep Deep Woods Off spray for those times the yard control has worn off.

great advice. I'd not heard of it.

Citronella candles? That's what we provide (the ones that come in a metal bucket).

I had a variety of those types of items in a basket on our porches here in the Deep South. Wipes as well as everything from Deep Woods Off to "natural" types of bug sprays.
I sprayed our gardens and treated the lawns (for fleas also).
Fans do help, but those skeeters are pesky....

Amazon sent me a note today that Off brand botanical towelettes were on sale. Grabbed a bunch. Already have the basket on the porch coffee table filled with spray. Now these will make it more user friendly.
