I went to a Google class today and the person running it made a statement that if you're only going to spend 10 minutes a week on social media 5 of them should be on G+.
OK. I came home and tried to logon to my G+ account. First I got what looks like a personal G+ page I don't remember setting up. Then I got a page full of other people's collections that it was recommended I join and ended up going around in circles back and forth from my Google Business page to those same pages full of other people's collections until I found MY page. I had 5 tabs open at that point.
Facebook has a 'home page' where all you do is enter your user name and password and voila! you're on your page. What's the link to get to my G+ page that fast? I just want to get to that one page. I don't want to wander in the desert of other people's collections. (And I'm still peeved that larger than life on my G+ about page is a link to booking.com.)
I did a search on 'my inn name' + 'G+' and I got 2 pages with my inn name and address but nothing I posted. The page I actually posted stuff on is nowhere to be found.
Help. What am I doing wrong? All I want to do is post links back to my blog. I have no friends on G+, no desire to do anything there, just post something every week to appease the Google gods.

I am surprised that someone is recommending Google + ... I guess if it was a Google class, you'd promote Google stuff. But I never use it. Ever. Sorry not to be helpful
To get there, I just go into my gmail account ... by using the little G+ symbol in with the little box of circles (google apps) in my gmail account upper right and I'm there. And what do I see? On the left 'what's hot' posts and on the right, people whose circles I joined years ago with the most recent post being from 2012 ... that guy is/was a big google fan ... google docs, google maps, google voice ... and he's not posting there. Anyway, that's how I get in.

Thanks. I will try it that way.
The only reason to do this is just to get some 'Google credit' for the website. Any little thing.

Essentially the class was an intro on how to set up a G+ page. Everyone in the room had one so there wasn't much to talk about.
She said everyone could follow along on their phone to do the set up, but no need. They all had a good stare at me because I did not have a phone. 2 other people left the room to answer calls. Another reason not to bring a phone to class. But, hey, I was completely outnumbered.
Also the only person in the room with a landline.
One girl asked me how I survived without a phone. I'm not sure what the correlation to that question was 40 years ago. How do you get along without a driver's license? Color TV?

4 tabs open now. 3 are google my business, 1 is the page I wanted.
If I click the G+ app in the list I get that page of other people's stuff I have no interest in.
But, if I limit this stress to once/week maybe it won't be so bad.

Have a G+ page, post to it. Participate in a G+ support group for Innkeepers. They have made that harder to work in, but yup, do all that. If you have your page set up, you can use Buffer to help you automate a few posts.

Is there seriously a support group?

Two. Actually, one that is open to only B&Bs and one that is open to others.

G+ is a mystery to me too. It frustrates me when I try to share something to my inn G+ page, and it always brings up my PERSONAL account that I never use. Luckily, a couple of years ago I saved the direct link to my business page; otherwise I could never even find it.
G+ does have some value for Google search position, but it's pretty much useless otherwise. Just someone's idea that never took off. They need to quietly phase it out.

BedPosts in the UK uses Google Hangouts for their meetings but lately it has been interesting for some to get on the call.

As I said... Just get Buffer and let them do it for you.

The class was on how to get a g+ page set up. Because everyone had one and no one knew that's what the class was going to be about, no one had any questions prepared.
(The sign up said 'learn how to use Google in your business'. Nothing about it being a g+ class.)
I could email the instructor except that partway thru the class she explained that this (helping with websites and marketing) is what she gets paid to do.
It wasn't until I tried, once again, to use it that I realized I had no idea how.

And that's all I want to use it for. Of course, it probably is useless for that purpose of you have no followers and no reviews.
When I logged in again today, glutton for punishment, I found I can toggle between old and new versions. The old version has all my info - address, phone number, website. The new version had none of that info anywhere that I could find.
I was able to delete the two extraneous pages but it still takes 3-4 open tabs before I get where I want to be.
It's on my calendar - once/week I'll go in there and add a link back to the blog with a photo and some content.
