Yesterday, after my guests left, I luxuriated in the fact that I had no guests coming. Incredible for a Saturday! I quickly put the house in order and took off to go fly fishing in a beautiful nearby river. It was a wonderful way to spend a warm spring day. I was still in that blissful state of mind when I returned home and listened to my phone messages. A guest had called at 2:45 to say they were on their way and would be here shortly. The next message was from the same guest saying they had arrived but couldn't find anyone about so they left and would return around 9:00 p.m. I was beyond mortified! I checked my reservations and found their confirmation email. I just never wrote it in my calendar. This is the first time in 20 years this has happened. I immediately called them and apologized. They were wonderful. They laughed and said it was no problem. When they arrived they could not have been nicer. This morning they were even more pleasant. I still can't believe it! After driving for 4 hours to get to a B&B and finding no one about, I'm not sure I would've been so understanding. There was no way I was going to charge them for their stay and when I told them that, they kept saying that this was the best B&B experience they'd ever had! I love these guests! I'm not sure how I lucked out on getting such understanding guests, but I am beyond grateful. I will never forget "how they made me feel". (See tagline below :) I hope I remember that the next time I'm having a negative customer service experience.

I once had it in my head the guests were coming "tomorrow" - until I saw a car pull in across the street. I ran to the door, asked if they had had dinner yet, confessed and sent them off to dinner while I got the room ready. Perhaps they were the same people because mine were also very nice about it.

That is the best mess up I have heard in a long long time, bless those guests and their understanding. I bet that was the best blessing of all!
But did you catch any fish? That is what we really want to know! :)

As you can see the fish was HUGE!!! Actually that's the biggest fish I've caught fly fishing! :). I'm just learning, but my son is amazing. It's like poetry in motion watching him fish. But he didn't catch anything yesterday. Lol!

That wasn't the bait? A bad day of fishing is better than a good day of working!

Ha Ha!!! I caught 2 more that were the size of shiners! I wouldn't let my husband take a picture of those. Good thing I wasn't fishing for our dinner.
