So, guest tells us that not all the cable channels are working. So, we check, they aren't. Call cable company... they took them off a MONTH ago when they put a filter on my line. So they have to come in 2 days and take the filter off to give me back the channels. Because <he should not be named> changed the services to save us a few bucks and the cable company's system decided to automatically remove analog service. So, I spent an hour on the phone. Total savings? Less than $2 a month. But it's been a month and no one said a thing to me? Wow!

We dropped cable about a year ago. The only ones that say anything are the ones looking for ESPN during football season and those that can not be without their cable news networks.
I can relate with those having ESPN withdraws but it was the best thing for DH to be released from all the never ending doomsday news.
OTOH, people love the Netfix streaming we added.

LOL. I asked guests how the room was and they hesitated. I pushed. Finally they told me that the hot water didn't work in the shower. What? So we tested and the hot water didn't work in a few of the showers!!!! Who knew?
Had the plumber in the next day and the problem is fixed (mostly, one toilet is still running hot instead of cold, but who cares?)
If I hadn't followed up on the hesitation, I wouldn't know.

Yeah, around here... they would complain because it was all "foreign" language.

Should I mention that <he who shall not be named> is currently working for the cable company?

OTOH - guest left this morning who listed everything that had changed since last he was here and he loved all of it! TV, heater in bathroom, new stairs.
Gomez tells me everything (I'm not home).

Doesn't it feel good to have your work and care noticed?
We've had a few repeat guests who are noticing all the decorating we did over the winter. Makes it worth it.

We started back up this weekend, opening the cottage for "regulars", two sets, back to back. Both couples loved the improvements and actually caught on that we made some of the kitchen upgrades to encourage longer stays with no breakfast offered. Both sets of guests said they would miss the breakfast but a change to Guest House instead of B+B (planned to take effect in 2018) would not keep them from coming at their regular times. This will be a slow conversion for us and we will definitely look for feedback from our guests to test the waters.

I have a dry-erase white board in each room, with a note on it asking guests to let me know if anything is out of order, in need of replenishing, etc. I find out a lot that way that I'd otherwise never know about.

My laugh for the day. The vision of steam coming out of the toilet bowl sent me in a gale of laughter! Thanks for sharing.

Yep. Gets me the info I need, and since I ask for their input, they fell like they're helping (which they are). I have the housekeepers photograph them with their phones and send them to me before they erase it.

Specific and Generic. Cute. You two should meet in person. Maybe talk to each other.

So, today, just before noon the tech passes by, asks to see my cable/backyard, etc. Go there. He thinks it's in the alleyway. He goes. Two hours later, still not fixed. So I'm on the phone with the cable company (where Specific is working at the moment) and talk to tech support that has to call the administration people. I'm on the phone 15 minutes so far trying to get them to fix what they were supposed to fix but didn't fix because they fix something that wasn't broken when Specific tried to save me $2 a month.
Anyone want to make me lunch? Remember, no bread... it's matzoh time.

Specific, you will never live this one down. Even if Generic deals with it, you will never be allowed to forget it!

When I called the cable company yesterday and they promised to fix it, yesterday or today, I asked what time. He couldn't give me a time. I asked what time they finish for the day. He asked why. I said, because I want to know at what time I should call back to complain that it wasn't fixed yet. The customer service guy sighed. He knew I was right.
