when they are "playing with the hydrant" or the water lines. It is usually the hydrant. I just did a load of guest towels, a robe, and a blanket. In the morning, I will go over to City Hall and get the powder they give to remove the stains. I have blotches of rust color all over a blanket, towels, and the white bath mat is mow blotchy rust. I am soooo glad I decided to make the sheets another load. CRAP!! I just remembered, I threw the brand new bb pillow protectors in that load! Whew! just checked and they look OK.

Ditto. Because it's no fun turning on the faucet only to have air and rusty water spray everywhere!

When checking rust stain removal products - oxalic acid is the active ingredient that does the work. Available from some hardware stores. I use it for rust stains on old porcelain on our private clawfoot. Strong odor when using. But it works. You can also soak towels in it. So not fun.

City Hall stocks something that is supposed to remove it - just looked, it is called Red-Be-Gone. I got the washer filled with water on pre-soak and then turned it off. It said to soak for 5 min if possible. This stuff is powder form (and so potent it comes with a hazard sheet) so I added it into a container of water before putting into the washer and then let that soak (except I forgot and it was at least an hour) and then washed. I have not looked at everything yet but so far the blanket is demoted to downstairs. The white bathmat is iffy, and one towel looked OK.
This was a zoo day of course. Himself had a 10:30 doc appt but I had a 100 with the UK meeting. Took him to doc, came home did meeting, picked him up, went to get a meal before his next doc appt at 2:30. Went to the Courthouse to talk to the County Clerk about the way things went Tuesday (our Primary & I work the Polls), groceries on the way home, and now I am DONE for the day. I will now go back to put the towels into the dryer so I see what else is ruined. Now I gear up for my City Election - had a lady stop me at the grocery asking if she can work polls again as she has moved back to town. YEA!

Just checked the red b gone ingredient list - no oxalic acid. I'm guessing the City Hall folks give out the stuff that has been tested to work in your region
I'd say try another soak except it got such a long one the first time!
You might try the oxalic acid. For a less lung irritating mixture that includes it - Barkeepers Friend works well. I have had success with making a paste and letting it sit 10 min or so on an offending spot then rubbing with a cheap toothbrush (my magic helper for fabric stains and to get in tight places like behind and around faucets)
sorry this happened to you. :(

Put the load in the dryer last night. he blanket is mine now nut will work for us as a summer blanket. The bad thing was the bathrobe. The lining of it now has white and pink splotches. I think I may invest in a box of maroon dye and see what happens.

Totally different topic but why don't they tell you they can't eat eggs before you're cooking their food? Or that they can't walk upstairs?

a lady who booked all rooms, each room individually for her daughter's wedding in the area called to see if her 94 year old parents could make it up my stairs.
You almost don't know how to reply to that with so many sarcasms entering your head and colliding all at once.

Or
"Is it safe to leave my car here?" usually from Boston. "I don't know, let me call my cousin Vinny and see if he is jackin' cahs tuh-day"

Is that to get to the room or to the bathroom?

Just had that this morning. We ask EVERYONE "do you have any food allergies or preferences we should know about" at time of booking.
We actually can get an egg substitute, and would have had some on hand had she told us ahead of time. Since she didn't, enjoy the fruit and cereal.

And we ask three times. I'm not asking you at 8 am, at that point I'm telling you what's for breakfast.
She was good with yogurt and toast.

OTOH, I'd prefer they didn't tell me they're 'foodies'. Essentially that means, to me anyway, we won't like it, no matter what it is.
I do wish our lovely Canadians were still here. They were so complimentary every morning.

Or they cannot have cinnamon...

That would be an issue!
I think we had vegans in the house this weekend but they didn't say anything. They had fruit and fruit juice for breakfast. They could have had the pancakes, but didn't ask for ingredients.
