Which one? I'm not getting sucked into this again.
I like to encourage guests to give themselves a bit of time in case they get lost. Oh no, GPS. We don't get lost.
Or, maybe to allow time for TSA. How busy could this tiny airport be? Ok. Leave here at 10 for your noon flight. They'll wait.
I just gave up. They have GPS, they don't need me to tell them how long to the airport. They can also look up the wait time for TSA.

Yeah GPS works, it just doesn't understand that the shortest way takes folks down the Blue Ridge Parkway and then a little narrow dirt road for a few miles through the woods, shorter yes, but maybe not the way an out of town guest should travel at night. It also doesn't understand the concept of following the highway that has been plowed VS the snow covered road.

There are big signs on the interstate for the airport. They want to squeeze the last dollar out of you so they take you thru the tollbooth.
We tried following the signs last time we drove to the airport. We know where the airport is. The signs stopped about a mile down the road from the exit.
How the heck is a tourist supposed to follow these signs?
Never again. We go the short, free way.

I remember using GPS to get from the Homestead to JB in January. That sucker took us down a road that was like coming down the hollows of WV without a guardrail - and just as narrow. Thank goodness it was daylight. THEN in the town at the bottom (not her town), it took us through back streets that had not been plowed. Ended up having to pull over on the main highway and a nice man used a bungee cord to hold my muffler up until I could get to a muffler place to get a new strap put on. Have not used Brunehilde since.

we get this with GPS - send you accross the Skipton Road which is the busiest road in the country outside london where you have to fight your way accross a lane of traffic to turn right - can take 30 mins to get accross - would never send anyone that way!

My feeling is, they are adults you should not have to worry about stuff out of your control. If they ask you... Fine... If not don't say a thing to them. You are not responsible for their actions.

Several years ago, as we are closing the conversation with a -night rez, she asks, "How far are you from the airport?" Me, Which one? Her, "Yeager?" Me, - "Ma'am, you need to call the Br*** Pine*****. Charleston is 145 miles from me." Then I gave her the number.
We are 11 miles from a puddle-jumper airport and about 125 from a major airport. Had the same scenario with hospitals another time - that time I was closer, but too far so gave the name & number of a B & B in that city.

You know I've had guests call and yell at me because they couldn't find something, right? Of course I have. ;-)
Anyhoo, they decided to give themselves 4 hours to get to the airport that is 20 minutes away. Left without even eating.

We have the same issue. The GPS will take folks coming from the south through a VERY curvy mountain road that is dangerous at night. We put on our directions page to navigate to another town first, then navigate to our town to avoid that road. But some people don't read or just ignore the advice. The arrive green and feeling pukey.

My DC area guests who follow GPS arrive white-knuckled and glassy-eyed if they decide Brunehilde (or they) know how to find my house better than I do.
Brunehilde brings them the shortest way - via a dark, narrow, twisty road even locals avoid at night. Others look at the map (amazing, I know) and see that US Rt 50 is a straight shot to within 10 miles of us. What their map does not show is that 50 is a 2-lane, twisty, over the mountains road with several KYA turns as it gets closer to me (I have no idea what it is like further east), few towns, and no lights. It is dark, even in summer, by the time they get to the mountains part of the drive - and no "do overs" possibilities.

Big problem in PNW: lots of "roads" on GPS are logging roads - some paved and looking like they go someplace. When giving directions to some favorite spots, I tell the guest to stick to the main road/don't trust GPS .. or they will never be seen again.
