We don't get a lot of Facebook reviews, but I got one yesterday - a 3-star review. I always want to find out what we could have done better, so i checked it out.
  • Guest never stayed with me
  • Guest lives in China
  • Guest doesn't speak English
  • Guest probably has never even been to America.
I then checked and found another older 3-star and a 1-star, these from someone is Asia and another guy in the Philippines. Tried to find out how to complain to Facebook. Big shock, it's not easy to find out how, and when you do find the instructions, they don't work.
So since they caught me a day where I only had 4 hours sleep and I'm grouchy as hell, I fired off a screw-you to their advertising department (we have used Fb occasionally to boost post and market to key niche groups. Basically said "I know it's not your department, but find out whose it is and forward it on to them. Because I'm not spending another dime with you until it's fixed."
I expect I'll hear crickets.

On FB we have a few reviews. One in each star level and then a slew of 5 stars. The 1-4 star reviews are totally unknown to us. Not a clue who they are. It's like someone was practicing. Just filling in fields and moving on.

This happens to almost every property. We've got quite a few 1* from people who have never stayed with us.
I just looked at your reviews and it's showing all the 5* reviews first and you have to scroll down a long way to get a low review. I wouldn't worry about it. It's very annoying and I would love to see them all 5*s. but frankly, most people never even look for the reviews on FB.

Just a thought, but some reviews on facebook might not be reviews of the physical business at all, but rather reviews of the business's facebook page!

Can't you just delete bogus ones? I delete stuff from FB all the time from those I do for others.

Never thought of that. All of ours on FB are guests we know or relatives.

I'm going to look. But I bet deleting them doesn't change the overall rating.
No, you can't delete them.
Now that I've looked at the list most of the reviews are from people we know rather than real guests. Except the ones that gave us low stars, don't know them at all.

Exactly the same here. Most of my FB reviews are local people who have never stayed with me, and they are lower than my guests give because they have no idea what my place is like. My only consolation is that few people look at FB reviews.

that's a bit of a ruddy cheek! reviewing without actually seeing in!

Google reviews can be fake too, I have one right now and sent them a notice about it, not sure what they do. Gave us 1 star, never stayed here. We know who it is, he has his photos and profile there.

Google will do nothing. I had one that was actually liable. Google said unless I had taken them to court they wouldn't do a thing. Years have passed since, the star rating still shows, but for some reason the actual review is not there anymore. I can't explain that one.
