Has anyone used the make a zipper kit? It seems you get 5 1/2 yds of zipper that you can cut to any length. I'm having trouble picturing this and wonder if any has used it and how it works? I need to put a zipper in a duvet cover and this seems easier than trying to find the exact length in a premade zipper.

Never used it but don't see why it wouldn't work. On sale at JoAnns right now.:)

Have used this kind of thing before. It's fine, just cut the continuous zipper tape to whatever length you need, add a pull or two, sew some stops (made from scrap fabric) at one or both ends, and sew it into your item as you would a premade zipper. Not as good for applications where you want a separating zipper, but can be made to work in those instances, too. (For example, I made a cover for the spinnaker pole on my sailboat, with 14-1/2 feet of zipper tape!)

exactly: trick is to get the zipper pull on right, then sew the bottom and top shut. Would work for a duvet cover where the ends don't separate. Practice with a foot long piece.

Ok. I ordered it. If I need help, innkeep and I will drive up to see you, on the shore!

Every once in awhile I like to use what I learned in home ec 50 years ago. ;-) But we didn't MAKE the zippers! That's going to be the hard part, I think.
(BTW , everyone has probably guessed by now that I failed the cooking section. Generic says there's hope but I have to work at it.)

What's sewing? (Says the man who uses these glue strip stuff that you iron in instead because he doesn't know how to sew and like ironing, thinks he's allergic to it.)

I used to trade my sewing skills for food. A friend who could bake like the dickens couldn't sew for beans. Win win.
Right now I'm making tablecloths, bar mats and throw pillows.
