I am looking at an inn that is really four separate businesses; an inn (9 rooms, restaurant 57 seats, a bakery, and bar). The current set-up is that the inn guests have a separate small dining room for breakfast. I am wanting to turn that room into a small walk-in bakery (there is a separate door than the restaurant) and have the inn guests sit in the dining room with the restaurant guests. Based on your experience, what do u all think of this idea? Do you think this would be an inconvenience to the inn guests? I hope I described the scenario well enough!

How do you know who is an inn guest and who is a paying restaurant guest? Do you give the inn guests a voucher for the restaurant? That's how I would go. The bakery sounds like a good idea.

There are some places I know and places I've stayed that do this. Logistically, I don't know how they keep it straight but I guess with nine rooms you could. Of course, they would likely come to breakfast without the recommended voucher but maybe ask name and room number/name just like 'the big places' ... easy enough. Unregistered people might try for a freebie by saying a room name or number but won't have the corresponding registered guest name if they're not registered. The problem envisioned assumes you'll be serving such fabulous breakfasts that you'll be slammed :) As a guest it wouldn't bother me.
The beauty of having your own place is trying things and then changing them as you choose.

Sounds like a lot going on for one building! Who is going to get up early to make the stuff for the bakery? Especially if you had a late check in the night before…. What about kitchen space? Chef, baker, helpers, waitresses, etc. sounds like too many cooks in the kitchen. If you rent it out to a business, they are going to want space for stuff and kitchen.
Of course I don't see it but I would do a gift shop instead where you sell things that promote your inn and restaurant. Or have it as a locker for guests to leave their luggages before check in or after check out while they see town (Maybe have two half baths.)

I would happily take breakfast in the restaurant, especially if it meant there would be an in-house bakery!
