Bed urinated in, and left for "housekeeping" to discover. Removed details.

Oh boy. Any way in heck a new protector can be obtained today?
Yes, quiet word and charge. This has not happened to us (yet) No spare protector here either, but that will soon change.
Hugs.

We recently had a middle aged man leave a bed full of vomit for us to find. No note, no sorry, and it was covered up with a pillow. Thank goodness it didn't go through the mattress cover but it was really gross! We don't normally charge for bed accidents (unless its a dog) but we might if it were a check out and we had another guest coming into that room.

We had to charge when it happened to us. We charged the full amount for a new twin mattress and box spring. ($500) For tonight, if you can get back into the room now, put plastic garbage bags under the sheet. The big, hefty, outdoor lawn or construction bags. That's what we had to do before we could get a mattress cover. I did not charge for the pillows we had to throw out. Everything else came clean, including the carpet and the wallpaper where they threw the kid's soiled pj's.
Sorry, this stinks (in more ways than one) and it's very annoying they did not say anything. The knew, how could they not, and how awful for them they live like that when there are products to help.
How we did it - I got the mattress people to fax me over a bill and we presented it to the person paying for the stay. It was nerve wracking because we are not good at this. But he paid up without a word. Those nice memory foam deals are pricey so print it out to show them how much it is going to cost you. (I'd go for a high price one in case they want to argue, then you could come down a bit and buy a really nice one anyway.)
I would not charge for all the extra work but I would bring it up.
More than likely they will not come back when they realize it's the owner who cleaned up after them.

When I bought those protectors a few months ago I did get a spare for each bed size. It's like insurance - if you don't have it you need it.

I had an issue the other day with a couple. It wasn't a yellow stain but a red one. A lot of it. Towels and sheets. Happened 2 days in a row. I finally had to say something. They were making way to much of a mess. Here is kinda what I said.
" I noticed the last 2 days there might of been some health issues we found in the bed and on the towels. I completely understand. If you could let us know as soon as possible so we can get our sheets and towels laundered ASAP it won't ruin anymore linens. It's not a problem if you could just let us know ASAP!"
No more issues the rest of there stay.
People sometimes can have very little respect for other people's property. I would probably say something or it's going to happen again tonight. But I would do it in a way that is respectful but to the point of....Please don't don't do this again!!!

I just don't get this mentality, especially from older people. You know they were not brought up like that! I am so sorry this happened to you, and worse yet, that you have to deal with them. I would approach them as they return from their outing and say "I couldn't help but notice that there was an accident in the bed. We have done our best to repair the damage, but some items can not be re-used, and this is one of our most popular rooms. As a small business, we just can't absorb this type of monetary loss. The cost of a new topper is approximately $...... How would you like to pay for that?"

Please come back and let us know how it went. I think the garbage bags under the sheets is a good idea. I think putting a box of Depends on the bed is a good idea also, but I don't suppose that would go over well.

You said that very well. It's a good script to work from!

I am so sorry you had to deal with this. It does not make it easier to deal with, but at least we do understand your frustration and can commiserate.
As the guest, I would be mortified, but would have done everything to make the situation better, not hide it. Sounds s if this is not out of the norm for these two though. I hope they pay up without a problem - at least not more of a problem than you already have.

Oh my...not good. Maybe leave a box of depends on the bed for tonight...seriously..they need to be talked to. Did you have an issue we need to know about? They should pay for the damage. I know they are probably embarrassed and thought you would be too. But it has to be brought up.

You should have a BB protector on the bed, that shouldn't let anything seep down, since it has to be less than 3 micron holes. Usually they are vinyl. Then a quilted cover to absorb. They also sell pads for dogs or children that you can put on and throw away. Do you have Ten@ bed pads available? You can always put those on.

omg AWFUL AWFUL!!
You've got a boat load of suggestions here so I'll leave that out.
But I do have a question ... Do THEY smell? If one or both are incontinent all the time and not wearing protective garments, or sufficiently protective garments, they are going to leave an odor wherever they sit.
SCREAM AWAY!

Oh so sorry! My first thought was like a couple others here: put some Depends on the bed.

Banana said it best. We should all save that in hopes we never ever need to utter those words!
I recall years ago another innmate from another forum had a young couple totally ruin a new mattress set - same substance but .... well I will leave it to your imagination.
The innkeeper sent them a bill which was not paid so she had to take them to small claims court and won but it was an ordeal.
Hope this is resolved easily!

So that's what I heard earlier today?!? (about the screaming) I'm so sorry to hear about this mess. It's no fun at all to clean and then have to deal with bringing it up and asking for money doesn't make it any easier.
Hugs from me as well!

So rude. We did have a couple staying years ago who completely relieved themselves on our mattress - they were so drunk coming back from dinner. (A professional looking couple in I'd say 60s who were drunks.) Anyway, they told us that morning and we had to run out and buy a new mattress it was that bad. They were on the 1st night of their 6 night stay with us. They paid $1700 that day for a new mattress and I made him sign a note explaining the situation so that he couldn't go back to the credit card company on me. I'd have no problem making them pay for a new foam topper. And if you don't want them back again that might help to keep them away in the future. Good luck.

Speechless.
I see we had an incident last night, what can we do to ensure that doesn't happen tonight? Not feeling well?
I would ask for compensation for anything ruined, giving them the opportunity to reply.
We once had a person set off the sprinkler in their room, and they were on the 4th floor. Walked out, they were lawyers, said to try and sue them.
Had I not been still trying to save things....well, you get the idea.

Worst one we ever had was chap was a friend of people who come for a particular trade show who had come to help them set up, he came down first had breakfast everything and then checked out - didn't find the SOAKING bed till he had gone, not even the brains to bung everything in the bathroom so would at least start to dry nothing! was livid! plus would be the only room specifically booked and an early check in. PLus one of those days where everyone is interfearing with you ie ringing the bell, dropping something off and so on was going bannanas! got it scrubbed and dried but billed the company. The regular who was his friend I told personally as thought they should know what they had done and her boss would have to pay for!

Update: They arrived back at the inn very late from their visit. This morning only one came to breakfast, and I had a sign taped inside of the front door to see the innkeepers to settle up, turn in your keys before you check out.
She acted like she had no idea about it. Listen, there were urinated saturated PANTS hanging on the towel rack, reeking up the bathroom.
Anyway, she agreed to pay it, but...did not have enough $ on the card. I had printed out a statement for her to sign and agreement to pay the amount, with all pertinent info, and she had to sign two copies - one for us and one for her. We have a date to run her card but I am not happy about that, at all. I do feel bad for her, it was her friend/sister and it was accidental. But for the world to read who is reading this OPEN forum (just kidding) consider leaving a note, and mentioning that is happened, like "We are so sorry, we had an accident in the bed" or to that effect. Not mentioning it was the biggest sin imo.
We are not charging for our time, or fuel. All of this has caused a huge headache for us, oh and happy father's day - can you deal with a room who urinated in the bed at check out please.
BTW we won't know if it happened again until we go into the room. (Update: Went in and they took the mattress protector with them. Interesting. DH is outside with the memory foam topper with that Dawn Platinum that an innmate told us worked well on all sorts of things, in a spray bottle and is physically on his hands and knees scrubbing it.)
INNKEEPING AIN'T FOR WIMPS
