Hi, we are new to the business. I am trying to be selective with our marketing dollars until we get our footing. I just received a 30% off offer to list with BB dot com to list for a year. Can anyone offer advice on how effective it is to list on their site?

Clear the cache on your browser and do a search as a guest would to find a place to stay in your town. How well does bb.com show up?
Do you have competition? Are they listed on there?
How well does your own site show up in the same search?
Keep in mind that bb.com will out spend you to appear above your own listing encouraging guests to view their site and pushing guests to select one of the properties that pay more and let bb.com sell their rooms.
They let anyone within 100 miles pay to list on your town page. Other inns will show up in the side bar when guests are looking at your property.
That said, bb.com is one of my best referrers. I get a lot of biz from them. I don't pay for the super expensive listing. I have the silver level. There are about 10 other properties listed, most of them not anywhere near my town.
Looks like there are only 2 properties listed for your area. Generally speaking, you don't have to spend a bundle because just about everyone will look at 3 properties. You could go with the least expensive listing that gives you the link back to your site. Then you can spend the difference on anything else that appeals to you marketing wise.

If your site is not on the first page doing a Google search, it can help to have your place listed on a couple of high visibility sites.

You are asking if my guests like strawberry ice cream.
the only eay to find out if it works for you, where you are, is to try it. At what level? That depends.

I agree with Morticia regarding all the pros and cons she listed.
In addition I would add that Google likes to see links to your site from other well known websites like the one mentioned.
At this point it is one of the main reasons I am still listed with them. I do get referrals from their site but not as many as I (feel I) should given their annual cost.
Being new in the business, I would get my name out there in as many highly profiled places as I could afford. You can scale down as your popularity grows and your website has established its way to the top of Google for your area and key search criteria.

Great advice from Morticia.
I also checked and just googled your town ... 3rd page of results and you still weren't showing up. But if I put in your town on bb there are only two others listed which could really help you. I would get a basic listing with link for one year. See how it goes.

We all got together in our region and agreed that no one in the bnb association would buy any higher than the bronze level so we would all save money and be equally ranked on b b com. Go to the other two bnbs, say hi, get an agreement. With three of you in your area there is not reason to compete with one another. Our area has 15 bnbs and everyone plays to save us all money in the game. (Anyone who doesn't follow the rules ends up losing)

Thanks for the advice. I have been hitting SEO a ton and I do think that I just need links now.
