Just got this link in email regarding responding to the inevitable bad review. Seems like generally good advice, but what about responding to ALL reviews. I haven't. Do I need to re-think this?

Yes. Always respond. Use the good reviews to encourage guests to return. If they come in the summer, suggest an event in the fall, etc. If they mention breakfast, lure them back with info about a new recipe.

I respond to all of them.
Those I read that only respond to the bad reviews appear to be reactionary. I like to be appreciative.
And I use the review to point out features of the inn. "Thank you for mentioning the koi pond, we love to sit there in the afternoon." "Good room tip, you were in the Rose room, our only room with the bathroom down the hall. Of course it is a private bathroom, never shared, but some people prefer an attached bathroom. Our other 5 rooms all have attached bathrooms." "I'm glad you mentioned the art galleries, our town has over 50 art galleries."

You didn't always feel this way.

There is so much I didn't used to do the way I do it now! Cambs pointed out years ago that this was free advertising space so why not use it!
Adapt or die is an excellent motto.

That was me. I said that. Welcome to the dark side...bwahhhhh!

I respond to all, good or bad. I often wondered if the reviewer gets notification of a response from management. Does anyone know?

I did not used to but have for many years now. And yes, it is a way to give the commercial. Good, bad or indifferent - the response is a commercial after thanking for taking the time to review,

I did not mean to duplicate - but it reinforces the point, make your response a commercial for yourself and your area.

Yes. When I write reviews I get an email with the response, or a link to it. That's happens once every 20 or so reviews. So, if you do respond it will probably stun the reviewer.

That's good to know. It's odd to me that people choose not to respond. Especially in the hospitality business. If they took the time to review, I can take the time to thank them. It's literally minutes out of my day. And I always take the opportunity to market something that I offer that they've commented on.
