Guest is already in town, without a car. Asked if they could drop off suitcases when they check out of other B&B. Sure, no problem. I'm pretty sure check out is 11 AM and we haven't seen hide nor hair of them. Luckily, it's too hot to go out to do anything so we're home.
We couldn't check them in early so I didn't even offer that. Maybe the other B&B is storing their bags until tonight.

That's strange, I would have thought they would be right over, too.

It's one of those things we just have to suck up. Do them a favor and get a slap in the face. It's just part of the business. Your only other option would be to ask them to call you when they leave to ensure you will be available to let them in. No call.....no entry!

And stranger still they showed up with a car.

Yup, plans change and you are not on their radar as being important enough to notify. We have found the most success with on-time arrivals when we make a point that notification of arrival time is in their own best interest. We tell them that we plan our daily schedule around their estimated arrival, +/- an hour, to ensure we are available to greet them at check them. Most of the time this works pretty well....but not always!

This is another wonderful moments that guests do to make us think - WTH!
They do not realize that we remember the previous discussion. They think we are like a hotel and that everyone is a John Doe with a blank face.

I finally solved this problem! When I confirm their reservation, I request they text me or call when they are en route to the property. I also explain there is a $50.00 Late Fee if they arrive between 8-10pm. After 10pm we don't admit them but a few nights ago the
Manager decided to let them in at 11.30pm!!!
Putting the Late Fee has cut down on late arrivals 99%. The others pay it and dont
grumble.
My complaint is when they leave makeup all over the towels and SAND on the floors!!!
