We had a booking come in for NYE/Day. The problem was I had not set up rates for 2017 so when the res came in, it showed total for both nights as NYE rate only. YIKES!
I thought it would not show available if no rates had been entered. Heads up. Publish your rates.

I have received bookings for next year and haven't set my rates. What's weird is that people don't even call to ask. They just book it, not knowing. If I were the guest, I'd be calling to find out what I'm paying!

I have contacted John in hopes he can make some sort of change.
I contacted the guest to explain and told them the new total. Of course they canceled.... better now than at end of cancel period.
But, please they saw what our rates were on our site then thought that it was 1/2 price on one of the biggest holiday of the year?

This sounds like a bug. If I don't have rates entered you can't make a reservation. Even I can't make a reservation from the office side!

Really? I don't think the program knows the difference between $0.00 and $199.00, as long as there is an amount in there. If I go in to "rate plans" and make a rate change for one day for instance, and enter the new rate, but forget to click the actual day (not date), it shows zero on my calendar. It hasn't happened often, but when it has, I just call the guest and explain the glitch.

I actually copied my rates for several years in advance figuring that I could just change them if I please. But I also don't do reservations more than 6 months in advance.

But since I had not published anything for 2017 it should be blank, not with $0.00
$0.00 is an amount. Blank says no rates have been entered.
Sure it only takes a call. Thankfully this young lady was pleasant but it could get ugly. They have no idea of the issue as ResKey says AVE cost per night and cuts the $ based on the total. This one thought we were doing a 1/2 priced special for NYE -

You are correct. Therefore it's a bug in the software. There should not be any price at all until you put one in.
Not $0, not $1. Blank. Nothing in the form.

Something everyone should keep in mind - once the post has a reply it can't be edited. That's because people (yes, us) used to Swiss cheese their posts so none of the replies made any sense.
If you want to stay anon, email Swirt and explain what happened.

Well that basically was John's reply. But it should not be populated with $0, it should be blank or N/A
or maybe a pop up to appear with email addie to ask for rates.
Sure it is my fault as it should have been populated. I thought that it not being populated with rates would not allow a reservation.... Another lesson learned.

But the beauty of the forum is that your lesson benefits all of us, I went and checked since I'm new at this, at least mine end at a likely quiet time, but thanks for the heads up, I now know I need to get busy and enter rates for the next period.
Maybe the quick answer for those future times when we have not yet considered or planned our rates it to enter a rate on the high side, at least an error would be in our favor.

My rate plan uses the date range from when I started in 2012 to 2032, and I accept reservations up to 1 year in advance. So there's always the current rate there, never a zero.
I guess. Had never really thought of it as a problem before.
If someone reserves for next March they get the current rate. If I raise the rates in January, though already on the books keep the rate they reserved at.

I have received bookings for next year and haven't set my rates. What's weird is that people don't even call to ask. They just book it, not knowing. If I were the guest, I'd be calling to find out what I'm paying!.

But the default must be $0? I have not yet set prices for March 3rd forward, and those dates on the guest calendar say $0. If someone chose any of those dates, the reservation goes through. Here's a link [removed] to my calendar - I'll remove it in a bit. But look at March - that's how mine looks if I haven't set rates.

In reality it should not appear as $0 it should be blank! Nothing, Nada, Zilch. Having a $0 means it is free, no charge.

I am confused as there are a couple places to put rates. This is a good reminder for us to check them though, thanks!

I guess it doesn't really matter, since I've got my for sale post on the forum anyway.
