I'm going to guess that chain hotels are not included in this survey, but I could be wrong. I'm thinking these hotels/motels/resorts are locally owned.
Anyhoo. Of the 300+ accommodations providers who answered this state wide survey, how many said guests could book online directly thru the property's website?
I'll wait while you think about it.
61% for hotels, motels, resorts
59% for B&B's or inns
The other two categories included cottages, cabins, campgrounds, etc.
That's a lot of money being left on the table.
Not surprisingly the largest % of reservations are received via phone. Next is thru the property website. These state-wide stats completely mirror what happens at my place.
Maybe innkeepers who read the results will think it's time to get online booking being as they'll almost still be on the bleeding edge.

I could not imagine taking all our bookings by phone. phew!!!
When we were looking at this place, the listing agent was also an innkeeper. Her advice was, "on line booking!" The seller did not have on line booking. It was one of the first things we did.

Last summer about half booked by phone, this summer more like 10%. A few can't figure out how to book on Reskey. It has been a continuing issue. I look at other's sites who use it and try to figure out how to make our site look more like theirs. I'll figure it out, but not this month!
Still 40% coming from Air*. Air makes it v e r y easy. Part of why I'd like to tweak the site a bit to make it easier for guests to use plus improve the copy - and photos. Copy was written in a hurry a few years ago and has been needing improvement ever since.....(the cobber's kids shoes.....) I have some new exterior shots that I actually like, so those and some new food photos should be a help. Now that I'm 'retired', there is actually some time in the day for some of the 'around to its'.
A neighboring inn is exclusively phone. Works very well for them, but they have some elaborate prep for the dinners they offer, so as much advance notice and conversation about preferences is useful for them. ( three rooms on a farm)
*Our nearby city vacation rental is listed exclusively on Air, so skews the stats a bit. We didn't have that last year.

90%+ has online booking - the people that don't are well down, only 2 place I can think of has nothing (1) of which is semi retired and the other going towards retirement

I am sure I responded to that survey, but I don't seem to have received the results back!

100% of the 42 bnb's/inns in our area have online booking.
Because of this thread I looked at our last year
230 booked with us via phone
223 booked through our website
118 booked through another website like boo king or air bnb
I would love to take fewer calls but a lot of guests are older and just more comfortable using the phone or they are looking for discounts. I wish I had a record of how many people call and don't book or just waste our time. "The website says you are booked, your voicemail announcement says you have nothing left, but please call us if you have any rooms left" So you have to call as a courtesy.
