I recently switched out a bedroom set for a platform bed (LOVE it!). The new bed has a headboard that has ample space for phones, keys, books, etc, so I removed the old nightstands also - it just seemed like too much "stuff" in the room. So removing the nightstands removed the lamps, because they are too tall to place on the headboard of the new bed. Now I'm not sure what type of lighting I should go with. I'm leaning more towards free standing floor lamps vs headboard lamps, for fear of the latter falling on top of someone. The bed is very stable and should not move much (if you know what I'm saying!), but I still fear having something over their head.

Anyone have an idea or a link? Even if not, I'm curious how you would do it.

something like this maybe? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/LED-Flexible-Reading-Light-Clip-on-Beside-Bed-Table-Desk-Lamp-Day-White-/291846095797?hash=item43f36203b5:g:kyEAAOSwV0RXsM3E
We have 2 small gold ones in a room with side tables built into the bed so not much space for stuff - barely even see them

Ohhhhh...I didn't think of a clip on. They look so tiny. They put out enough light tho, you think?

My present nightstand lamp is screwed to the nightstand for that same concern about it possibly getting knocked off and broken, guess not all lamps lend themselves to that process, but you may find something suitable that would work in that manner. Most lamps also have a hollow threaded rod down the middle (wire runs through the rod) it is possible you could add an extension to the rod so that it would fit through and be bolted to the headboard.
I don't know your structure, but I'm talking with my electrician about putting a couple of outlets and a switch over the nightstand and have that switch control a recessed can light over the bed for reading, it doesn't sound like it will be much more expensive than buying replacement lamps and will free up my nightstand for guest's devices.

I have this in yellow instead of white (or something VERY similar) on the bookcase headboard of our king bed. I was just asked about them by my cousin's wife - she liked them. Have had them for over a year now and like them. I have a USB tower on the headboard also so it is easy to recharge them as I clean the room.

mine were from Ikea and are like a ruddy floodlight! come in about 10 colours so we picked gold as that's the colour scheme of the room and gold curtains on the bed so just a bit of the end sticks out like an anteni! Our only trouble is some people think they are tie backs for the bed curtains

I have some sconces with LED reading lights that are nice. And that place that sells Chinese toothpicks with Swedish names has some as well.

We have ones that screw into the wall if they are not on the bedside table. My parents have floor stand lamps but they are positioned behind the couch since they are top heavy and the dog's tail could send it crashing, let alone someone walking by, or a child running through. It had more to do with vibration. So check one out at the store. Put it on the floor and stomp by, etc. before buying any.

We have side lamps attatched to the wall. The have swing arms. They look small, but actually give great light. They came from home despot. Very reasonable.

We use these in black since the bed and room accessories are wrought iron. Around here we get inexpensive lamp shades from this place. I am not sure where you are so you may not have a CT shop nearby. They do sell just shades, but do not show them online.

Home depot and Lowe's also have lamp shades. A lot of the time, the same ones as CTS!

The best find ever was a 'half lamp' I found at CTS. (The lamp shade is flat on the back.) We hung it from a shelf over the bed.
