So one of our favorite groups (two couples) checked in this afternoon. They walked in with one man carrying wires and connectors, the other man had tools, and their wives had the drinks. (Two weeks before they were here and we were talking about a project we wanted to do when we have some time and the one man was figuring out how this would best work, etc.) Now they are working on the second bottle (but it might be done), cookies made and ate, brownies made, project done, poolside visited, and they are now on town…. So now I'm on innspiring.

When my uncle retired, he emailed all the guests to say he closed the inn. We reopened it one and a half months later, but in that time frame when the guests were used to sending in deposits to hold their room for the coming year, they were trying to find another place to call their second home…. So they were so happy we reopened and want to do their part to keep it open… They are our best advertisements and advisors!

That is sweet. That's making a real connection. Spreading the love!

I had "those guests" one night many, many years ago. 10 PM a gentleman informs me the sink in the bathroom (only one at that time) was draining slowly (as in VERY). I had 2 rooms occupied at the time. I went up and wirked the plunger to no avail. He asked if I had a pipe wrench (he knew Himself was disabled), so i got one. He took off the trap - nothing there. Then the other room gentleman came out and got his tool box from his vehicle.
It just so happened I had seen a device on the "get rid of table" that was an air pressure unclogger for wont of a better term. I came down and got it (Himself was "agin-it" fearing it would "blow the plumbing"). The 2 men used it, cleared whatever was the problem, put things back together, shook hands and went to their rooms. And they would not take anything for doing it for me. The wives said it was the kind of thing that made them happiest.
We ARE in a wonderful profession and, for the most part, have the nicest people as guests.

Love stories like that! We have repeat guests here now who've been coming for 19 years. They are like family and we just adore them. Yesterday they went for a walk and came back with a bag filled with wild mushrooms they picked from the side of the road. He is from Germany and grew up foraging with his father so he knows the good ones from the poisonous ones. I got a grand lesson on wild mushrooms. They used our dehydrator and overnight those mushrooms dried beautifully. They said they will use them over the winter in soups. They offered some to me but I'm not brave enough to try them. Maybe once they try them, and survive, I'll give it a go. Then again, maybe not.
Every time these guests are here I learn something new from them.

Wonderful story. I had a similar thing with one of the vacation rentals. Only found the sink was slow due to a guest review, an hour before the new guest due to arrive. Disassembled the trap but that was not it. Couldn't use the air pressure clearing apparatus due to configuration of stopper and drain. New guests said they were OK with it being slow. The new guest's husband took the drain and stopper out for me when they left, so I was able to easily clear the drain. I replaced with a traditional drain and stopper so it will be easier next time.

So this morning I came down to the Dining Room to find out I was in a heap of trouble. The one man found my missing feather duster this morning when he swung out of bed and stepped on it! His first reaction was it was an animal and dead since it didn't move. When he saw it was a duster, he was like, "That Duff! Now how did it get in my room without me seeing it?!?" I just assume that the duster had gotten mixed into the laundry basket and taken downstairs so I just used the one from the other cleaning bucket. Learned my lesson, make sure it's downstairs in the laundry room.
They are taking my aunt out for supper, I get to watch the house and make sure it's not stealing dusters and hiding them in guest rooms.
