I was thinking about this over the course of the morning where breakfast went very well as everyone spread out the times they ate and there were no wait times for seating or food. Another reason it was so easy is the two rooms who told us they had allergies to pretty basic breakfast food sailed out the door at 9:30 with a cheery, 'See you later!' and did not eat at all.
I won't miss food allergies.

This doesn't happen as often so it's really noticeable when it does. Same room has asked for towels 4 times already. They've been here two days. They brought the old towels to the kitchen and handed them off. They were dry. I get not wanting to use wet towels but now I wonder who does the laundry at home if they use new towels twice/day.

Ironing pillowcases. I may even leave the ironing board behind as B & B equipment.

Not being able to decorate my home with family photos and personal mementos.

getting up early. It's just not my natural body rhythm.
Saying the name of the biz when I answer the phone

Answer:
"Because they will tell you"

I recently retired from work outside the B&B. Although we are in the thick of August, it is so much better than last year. I find I can think of what is needed for the inn, and not all those other swirling thoughts. As Gillum wishes us: I am as busy as I want to be!
With 9 years under our belts, I finally feel comfortable and competent at this, and that is a very good feeling.
That said, in future I will not miss the high level of hawkeye stain spotting and removal. Just refreshed room and, well, it will not be quick turnovers when they all leave tomorrow!

I wonder what would happen if you refolded the returned towels and put them back in their room. Would they even know? I have never done that but there have been a few times I have been sorely tempted.

I can speak with confidence on this one since I have had experience this summer. I will not miss much about being an innkeeper except the income. Like pulling your hand out of a bucket of water, the hole just fills in!

there was a place I knew who just put them in the dryer then back in the room so had a job on to keep straight which rooms towels were which (that's how I know about it) - 5 mins and then back to the room.

I left my outside job this year some years after retirement age, but the motel was to be our retirement activity when we started years ago, fortunately we still enjoy our activity, mostly we are blessed with mostly nice guests or the nature of our operation make them a bit easier.

Absolutely without question - food allergies and the fad diets some are on. This month already I've had the following:
- vegan
- GF, DF
- Tree nut allergies (there goes using my fabulous granola)
- all food dyes, especially red
- GF but your cookies look so good I'm gonna have one now as she walked over and consume one after you've adjusted your menu for me
- GF/DF, allergic to corn, all oils except sunflower (only gave her fruit and GF oatmeal to be safe)
- and the latest that I got today … allergic to cumin and all plants associated with it. (Since I'm not familiar with all of them associated with cumin, I'll do my best not to kill them.)
And I'm adding those who don't give a crap about sticking to their checkin time. Whether it's showing up 3 hours early or saying you're coming between 3-4 on two different occasions and finally showing up at 8:15. Thanks, I love shopping at 9pm at night after being up all day or having to be at the market at 7am when they open because I had to sit here for hours waiting for you when you wouldn't answer your phone and kept me waiting 5 hours.

I'm going to stick my neck out here and probably get my head in my hands, but................
I've never had a man stay who had a food allergy.

You should come make breakfast here for a week. Today it is eggs and watermelon. Two different guys. Tomorrow it is peanuts. Guy. Last week it was chocolate. Guy.
I'll go farther out on that same limb and say more women feign allergies.

Feeling tied down to The House… Sorry, can't do that, needed at The House.
