So this is a little early for Halloween but I wanted to share it right away.
I wore my hand knit fisherman's sweater as it was blessedly cool for a change in the evening.
Walking back in the door to the b&b I snagged my sweater on something and pulled out some stitches along the lower hem. So sad! There was an elderly woman sitting alone in the lounge knitting when I went in to make a coffee and claim a cookie. She said 'What's the matter dear?' I told her I wished I had learned to knit like my mother, that I'd torn my sweater.
She put her knitting aside and said 'Give it here'. I took off the sweater and handed it to her. She looked it over and told me she had some yarn very close in color and weight and did I want her to mend it? Did I? I was surprised to see she had such similar yarn as this was a hand knit from undyed yarn that I bought in Scotland they say are made in the knitters' homes.
I made her a cup of tea and sat drinking my coffee. Watching her was so nice. She had a big bag full of yarns and things and she reminded me so much of my mom, gone since 2002. I wanted to talk but she just answered in nods and mmmhmm's so I let her work in silence. In about 15 minutes my sweater was repaired. So happy! She said she found knitting relaxing and that she would just sit there awhile with her thoughts. She was beaming and said she was happy to help. I hugged her as she stayed seated and I went up to my room.
In the morning at breakfast I searched for her and couldn't find her. I hoped to send her a thank you card and I asked the innkeeper if the white haired elderly woman had checked out early. I told her about the sweater repair. 'You must have dreamt it,' she said. 'We don't have any elderly guests staying here right now'
Of course I rushed to examine my sweater - and the repair is there though barely noticeable.
Friendly Nana Ghosts! :)

Most plausible explanation - someone's granny was chilling at the wrong b&b. But I like my supernatural explanation better.

I said it a long time ago - you are fey. And it is a quality in you that I admire.
