I feel that I haven't upheld my long time forum participation by not ranting enough. So..
The helpful guest who clears her plate to my kitchen where I am cooking or to the buffet where I am trying to present fresh food. Or, recently the helpful guest who put her dirty wine glasses in my bar dishwasher after it had been run that evening (and the dishes still warm!) But a real winner. Guest looks at my potted orchids and thinks "poor man, must be so busy he hasn't removed the price tag from the flower pot" and carefully peels off these tiny black on dark blue labels which are in fact the weight in grams of the pot when watered to its desired moisture level. I water pots on a scale. ... OK, maybe there are several OCD in this tale ... wtf ...

'Help' from the clueless......(clinks dirty wine glass in sympathy)
In fellow frustration - as of this past weekend I'm missing:
2 potato peelers
1 cork serving tray.
Who, who, who, would take these and why??????
I m u s t have misplaced them, but for the life of me........
So ordered more from Am a zon.

I hate this - we have a TINY kitchen if I have not brought plates in its because I have no where to put them - thanks for that. Or people that leave little cereal packets all over the buffet there is a trash can right there!

I often find the coffee spoon left out. Someone stirred cream into their coffee and left the spoon sitting on the buffet. I am sure that makes sense at home, but here, we have lots of spoons. :)

Blame that on me. Guests don't know what to do with the spoons. I tell them, 'just put it down. Anywhere on the counter.'
Otherwise they are walking around with it dripping coffee everywhere or trying to hand it to me.
We have one of those metal holders you see at bars that hold fruit. That's on the counter for trash and spoons. Sometimes it gets used.

Haha, I'll just tell them, Morticia is not here, so let's do it this way. LOL

We have two spoon holders on our table: "Clean Spoons" and "Used Spoons"

This works well for us: Clean spoons are standing up in a glass container on the coffee/tea service cart with the pot, kettle, creamers, and wrapped biscotti. Next to the spoons is a deepish dish that is perfect for used tea bags and the used creamers we put out after the milk and 1/2+1/2 containers are removed. But there is also a shallow dish for used spoons. I don''t think we have ever found a used spoon just lying around...they all make it into the shallow dish which gets cleaned every hour or so. No signs needed.
Once in a while we find a spoon in the deeper container, but never just set on the glass cart top.

I hate it when they use the sugar spoon to stir their coffee - and THEN put it back in the sugar bowl.

I bought a tiny sugar spoon. It's uncomfortable to use and about 98% of the time, they don't use it to stir because it's uncomfortable to do so. (Short handle)

We remedied this by putting a small round white plate beside the coffee urns and we put a spoon on it when we set it up in the morning. Now all of the used spoons go here instead of on the counter getting everything sticky -- lead the little lambs to do what you want and most will.

Oh, but the ones who don't!
The other morning had one more guest who neither remembered me saying the cream is in the glass bottle nor read the sign standing right next to the bottle. Poured a big glass of it. I casually mentioned, as he raised it to his lips, 'that it isn't milk.' He tried to pour it back into the bottle.

We use these..with an additional label on the lid for those who do not read the side. Seems to work well for us.

That's a good idea. It doesn't say, how big is it?
We use a very pretty pitcher, but in the summer, we put it in a bowl full of ice. Not the best method. An insulated pitcher with a label is a great fix.

You'll feel pretty silly, with the not reading thing and all, when I say the capacity is right under the photo... 2 litres. ;-)

And we put a few of these in the carafe as well...just to keep it ice cold during the hot summer.
