Smile at people
When someone smiles at us, without words, it tells us they accept us. When you smile at someone, it tells them the same. They in turn respond accordingly. You in turn respond to their response, and pretty soon your day is going pretty well with all these nice people around you.
Wow!

Ask what your weaknesses are
It takes courage to ask because most people's egos can't take any criticism at all. They go on for years making the same mistakes because nobody has the courage to tell them voluntarily.
Ask people you respect and that know you well - "Do you see anything in me that is holding me back?"

And it is much easier to smile than frown. Have started some of the most interesting conversations with a smile.

I remember I worked out even at a young age that it didn't matter what you said to the cat, it was entirely the way you said it. My sister and I thought it very funny that you could say horrible things to him and as long as you said it nicely he would purr and rub up against you.
I wouldn't test that with foreign language guests though.

Absolutely! I had a guest from China who spoke a little English. She was trying to explain something in detail to me and was having difficulty, so she decided to try using the Google Voice App. She would speak into it in Mandarin, it would translate into English, and then I was supposed to speak into in English and it would translate into Mandarin for her. Every time I tried to speak into it I messed up and started laughing. Before long the two of us were laughing uncontrollably. This went on for a few minutes. We eventually figured it all out but that shared laughter really bonded us.

Yes! The syntax wasn't always correct, but we were definitely able to communicate.

I'll get it. We have some Chinese speaking tenants and with 3 words of Chinese for me, and maybe 100 words of English for them it is very difficult. I've been using Google translate app plus their daughter acts as go-between if a complicated matter. Thanks for the info!

We communicate only by phone if the parents have a problem with the apartment. I don't really know her. :(

Can you take a photo of the text and paste it into a word document and use Google translate from there?

Although this thread has wandered away from smiling, the title still shows up. I've tried to smile more, and it really works. However, I need to say that one of my mother's favorite sayings was Smile...they'll never know what you're up to.
