So we are guestless and enjoying it! Monday the washer died while my aunt was washing her clothes. Then the next door neighbor who was patching his driveway decided it was too big of a job and called in the paving crew. All of us noisy neighbors were on site to watch and make our comments. This morning the electricity went off for two hours at least. I woke to the monitor beeping that it lost signal so I went down to the front hall to see what was up. There was the emergency lights on and the alarm beeping that it didn't have electricity. I turned off the monitor and went back to bed….. during the time we would have been getting breakfast and serving it!

Thank the 'good timing for once' fairies!.
NO KIDDING! We usually get a week off a year when the Owner comes down. My personal favourite is when someone calls to book... during breakfast hours... at a B&B...
I was speaking with a fellow Innmate a few weeks ago who said being guestless (or in slower season) is so worth it due to the insanity of Summer/Fall. Almost like a little treat from the Universe.

I get the day off at the end of October... jealous..

He, He! I accomplished something while sitting twiddling my thumbs today…. Reality check…. Sitting on the stairs pushing a cloth in and out between the railing on the stairs.

Whoa! Our washing machine died yesterday too!! Poppa has to make a mad dash to the laundermat every day for sheets and towels. No idea when BestB can fix. Today we lost internet and cable TV for three hours. The other day our sheets/pillowcases $125 Rowenta power iron died. Except we are not guestless and are full, full, full through Sunday. And today is Day 90 in a row, no end in sight until possibly October 17th. We just moved up and added on 3 extra days to our two week SF trip to see our kids and grandkids. Can. Not. Come. Soon. Enough.

Yikes! Our washer died. Repair people said couldn't get here for a week. Nearest laundromat 35 miles away. Fortunately an appliance store said yes we have the Speed Queen Commercial and can deliver tomorrow! You bet I took that deal. And now am inordinately fond of the new washer. Faster cycles, cleaner cloths, can lift lid and add forgotten items. Made August much easier.

Ours is a top of the line LG only 5.5 years old. 10 year motor drive warranty. Love it when working. BB coming Thursday, but with the holiday weekend doubt they'll be able to order parts.

Our machine is maybe the same age as me or older and we knew it was on the way out. But trying to deny reality of having to buy another one. I was so sure it was going to go on our busiest weekends…..

We have the local appliance store on speed dial and they know us by name.
When our washer died, we called, asked for a floor model that had large capacity and it was delivered that day.
(Helps that we also bought our whole kitchen cabinets, appliances through them. They love us.)

I have used two of them. They are fun! A family of eleven had one and then they switched to the regular ones. I could do the laundry faster with that than the new one, but then I didn't get anything else done in that time frame…. I was the nanny/babysitter for two days a week.
Ha! I know where you live thanks to mapquest and google!
Edited: The one that died wasn't that old and neither am I! But I believe I'm still younger than you!

Exactly. Much faster to do dishes by hand, but can do other tasks while dishwasher runs. Haven't used the wringer washer, but have done it in a large bucket with a stick in the very distant past.

My grandmother had one of those but metal, not wood. Previous century, but not longer ago than that.

Did that as well as washing in a river… Dumping stuff into a machine and walking away is pretty good…. until it stops working.

Our other washer has started down the path…. so we know we should replace it in about two years. We got time!
The new washer is nice but the top slants ever so slightly and corners rounded to give it a sleek and modern look so whatever is put on it slides off. Something that wasn't clearly marked on the website or in pictures. I used to use the washers to fold laundry and leave the piles on. So no more putting things on it so you have a free hand to open the door in the morning because unto the floor it goes! It works for towels folding but nothing else…. I just lost some of my "counter space"! It is bigger and better for doing blankets which is very nice!
