Vacation!

We took one. It was really nice. Closed the inn Sunday night through Thursday night. After rooms were cleaned on Sunday, we went out to dinner and enjoyed time alone. Just the two of us. Dinner out every night. Two golf days, one beach day.
On Friday, we did the inn grocery shopping and were at our posts by 2 PM ready to get right back into it.
The 5 nights off paid off. We are both much more calm and ready to take what the biz throws at us.
The $ we lost was no more than we would have paid out to fly somewhere in February and rent a car and get a hotel. So we are ok with the loss. Since we live in a nice vacation town, we just went with it. (It helped that three new restaurants opened up over the past couple months.)
I can't say how others should manage their business, but I will say, a quick break after the summer did wonders for my hubby.

Absolutely! We had 4 days off, but not together! Gomez went to care for his mom while I did nothing at home.
No one called. Not even telemarketers. Lovely time off!

Even one day helps!
It made sense for us to take the week since, in the fall, weekdays are one or two rooms.
We had a regular call for our 'closed' week. We told him what room he was in and that there would be no breakfast or maid service. He loved having the place to himself!

I go to Conferences for my vacations and the motorcycle event in July. Conferences I am on my own and the July gig is HIS big deal. That one, after I get him settled for the day I can visit with friends or do what I want (this year was different due to grandson #2 wedding - this year was zoo-time). We do day trips here and there IF we have a reason to go somewhere. Just getting out of the house is nice.
Last week we went to Morgantown to see the riders in the Cannonball Run 2016 come in for dinner and the night on Sunday and Monday decided to go to Williamstown, WV to see them ride in for lunch and then continue on to Chillicothe, Ohio to stop for that night. They started in Atlantic City and will end up in Carlsbad, California this Sunday - and ALL the motorcycles had to be manufactured in 1916 or earlier. It was awesome.

I was also able to pass out Himself's business cards to people who might want a painting done of "their baby". One man who commissioned painting of his bike came back to commission a painting of his favorite dog when it died. Of course, I told many about the B & B. One gentleman I spoke with has gone on FB and liked my page.

Hauling my boat in early Oct.
the season is shorter up here than down there....
we actually hauled the first of our rental fleet this past Sunday.

I had my cellphone along (but not the house phone!) and it got charged by the solar panel! A new and nice experience for the phone….

One of the reasons why we tend to leave the country for our vacations is so I can totally break my mind away from the biz. It's so difficult to really disconnect when I can be reached easily. Get me in a time zone that's 8 or more hours from the b&b and then I can have a true mental vacation.
