I read the reviews of the other inns in town and saw this one. The review was very long and was mostly complimentary. She even complimented the manager!
Her complaints: The server took too long to greet them, the bathroom didn't supply lotion and she wanted more towels, There were smudges on the light switches.
Not sure that adds up to 'inept' management.
It IS a high end property - over $300 a night. So I guess perfection is expected.

Well, I hope they never go to the place I stayed at with the worn out decking, cold breakfast and instructions to not use the fireplace. $400+/night, if they have availability!
I will agree that the higher the price the more the guest expects. I certainly expected a lot!

$300-400+ a night? You will find me at the campground down the street and I will be delighted if they have hot water and a cleaning service in the bathhouse. Our maintenance guy went with family to a place in Maine and came back and complained how they charged our amount of money but it wasn't half as nice! (Don't worry, it wasn't anyone here!)

My ladies from last night told me as they were leaving this morning that one thing that really impressed them was that I had a box of Kleenex on both sides of the bed. We have one on each side of the king bookcase headboard and on each nightstand in the other rooms. Plus a box in each bathroom.
Why? Because I know what MY needs are. I should have a box implanted into my side.

I read a review of a local boutique hotel last week, woman was upset that the chocolate covered strawberries that she purchased were put in the in-room fridge. She said that because she had to look for them that it completely ruined the surprise for her boyfriend and therefore the whole weekend was a total loss. WHAT?! It's been very warm here and I'll bet she would have been more upset had they left the strawberries out and they melted into a big puddle of goo.

Check in tonight just stayed at that $400 place last night.

There is an alarming amount of expectation out there for the perfect whatever. If people would just be happy they've got the money to go away, a boyfriend to go away with and stop fretting that it wasn't movie-perfect life would be so much easier. For everyone.
I planned a surprise party for Gomez. Lined everything up. His sister never showed up to set up the tables and he showed up an hour early and spoiled the surprise. I was furious. Why couldn't people just do the simple things you asked them to do?
It's an hysterically funny story now but it wasn't then.
Hopefully, this poor woman, whose entire weekend was ruined because she couldn't find her strawberries, will still be with this guy years from now laughing about it. Even if she spoiled someone elses day with that review.

I can't afford to stay at our inn…. Glad we have a servants' quarters. Though I think The House view us as Its slaves!

Guest told me they say a review that said "DON'T STAY HERE". So what was the crime... no ice in the room.

The very philosophy behind my putting a box of mosquito repellant towelettes on the front porch. I hate mosquitoes so I don't want them bothering my guests.
(I met a regular guest for the first time. He was singing hubby's praises to me. Said he stayed with us just because Hubby is so good at his job. "As an example, he thinks to put mosquito repellant on the front porch! No other inn has ever done that!" I simply thanked him. Didn't tell him it was my idea. LOL)
