I don't know if there are any inns or innkeepers in the path of Matthew, but please be careful! Take care and prayers hoping that no one gets hit. Also happy and hopefull thoughts going out to those of us who have relatives in the path of the storm.❤️

I have friends in St. Augustine Florida ... they are being evacuated. Some people are insisting they are going to ride it out yet all emergency personnel, fire, police, are leaving on Friday. Nightmare.

My one uncle called this morning to tell us he is leaving Cocoa Beach around noon…. He was going to wait until the last minute but all the relatives talked him out of that plan.

My Amelia Island guest's husband was in the hospital and was ambulanced to Gainesville and she is in (her words) an expensive B&B because all other rooms that take dogs were booked.
A friend was supposed to fly to Florida but the flight was cancelled and she is getting a full refund because she is not rebooking. She had to cancel because of a tear in her retina was told she could not fly and the airline told her it was cheaper to buy a new ticket - so she did, for January. Since she could not get a refund (no medical policy) she decided to wait and see what happened. With the cancelled flight she does get a refund.

The hurricane was in her favor this time! Glad the hurricane helped out you two over there.

Glad they were able to put some sense into him. The interstate was as long as the road. I was wondering why they did not put the south bound lanes into contraflow like they did here with Katrina. It still was non ending traffic but more people got out in time.

But then not all. After the storm and for months and months later, we saw abandoned cars on the side of the highway leading from the MS gulf coast to the interstate. We could only pray that the people that had gotten to that point were able to get to a safe haven.

He's a hermit. The last thing he wants to do is go sit somewhere with a whole bunch of people….

Couple came in late - 9:30. I opened the door - they looked like deer in the headlights.
I asked if they'd just flown in. (The road from the Boston airport to us is long, goes through some very dark spots and sends most people through the woods before they find us.) "Yes, we're from Florida. We almost didn't come. Our plane was delayed."
Me: Have you eaten?
Them, "No."
Me (knowing that all the restaurants are closed.), "I can send you 5 miles away to the next town or I can show you the delivery pizza menu."
Them: "Delivery." I called on the land line because we live a the end of the earth and cell coverage sucks. The delivery guy told me 45 minutes. I felt so bad for them!
Me: "You look like you could use a glass of wine." They almost hugged me!
I got them a glass of wine and a plate of cheese, a cut up apple and crackers. They were very grateful. I was asleep before the delivery driver showed up!

Couple that with the guy who thinks you're unfriendly and we've got the makings of a Dr Jekyll Mr Hyde story.
Or, why innkeepers are so strange after a few years.

Glad you made their night as best as you can.

feel super bad for the Hati people, my Aunt works for one of the aid agencies and was out there during the massive earthquake 6 years ago - they were just starting to find their feet again and now this hits - the poorest people with literally no where to go on an exposed island.
