I just saw an article on FB explaining that Maine just approved a $1000 fine for fibbing about your dog's service status.
Article is on the WCSH 6 website.

Proud of them! Those in Maine need to get this on your FB page or something, etc…

I have a presentation next week on this issue for the Vermont Bed and Breakfast/Inns Association meeting. I'll add it to my comments. Hoping to motivate Vermont to do the same. Thanks!

How does this work? I didn't think you could ask to see papers for the service animal? Might be the law now but you cant check to make sure they are telling the truth. Kinda seems like a joke to me.

Exactly. And the article did not clear up anything. And of course the state can't ask for proof when the federal law states you can't ask. And anyway, real service animals don't have a license as such. And what about therapy animals. The brief article mentions them but does not give the law surrounding them.

What the states need to do is to demand clarity in the ADA laws and require permits for those that qualify so businesses do not have to worry about being hit with a violation from the ADA.
