Directories are on the out, but Select Registry is still going strong. Does anyone who has dealt with them have any advice? Was it worth it to join or is it dwindling like other directories?
Did we get a cattle call email or should we feel honored to be invited? (Me thinks cattle call as membership is probably dropping).
Would you recommend membership?
I know their inspection process is rigorous.

Not personal experience, but. Our neighbors are members. I think it made a huge difference the first full year. Then SR goofed and mixed up two different inns with very similar names so the neighbor's printed listing was useless. Back in form this year. It does seem to bring them a lot of biz.
And, yes, from what they said, the inspector looked at everything and made recommendations for improvement.

They didn't provide a link to the website in the email. Something, sort of important.
But after all the membership fees, which they don't disclose in the email either, they offer guest discounts on their website. See what I mean, I thought these are the upper crust and yet, they still want discounts as incentives to book a room.

I got the same e-mail invitation. I think it's a cattle call. SR is not known in the west. I know a couple properties who have done it out here without much success.

I'd have to ask who the clientele turns out to be.

I thought there was a limit of 400 properties. I wonder if some inns are not continuing to list.

See I don't mind recommendations from professionals or people I know have good and sensible experience - but when we were with the AA and Visit Britain the absolute crap they came out with left me open mouthed
(1) to me I should stop using my 2 single rooms with private bathrooms as the bathrooms were too far away from the rooms - we were flat broke and they were our most booked rooms! out at about 75% of the time building a huge department store as its really hard to get cheap rooms here!
(2) told my neighbour she shouldn't bother with nice hand wash cheap washing up liquid would do as guests wouldn't know the difference - which is in direct contradiction with their own handbook which says quality toiletries
(3) my neighbour has a 5 room place and has spend an absolute fortune on it - got 4 stars and said what do I have to do to get 5 as I want that market was told "he would never give 5 stars " in my town! she directly complained!
and so it goes on -

Shelburne in Long Beach a long time Select Registry, but many rooms there. Owners say it depends on your clientele. A fair amt of east coasters stay there. The rewards program is good for them.
