I most always (seriously, always) bake from scratch. And today this popped up in my newsfeed and I remember hearing about recipes like this. Might have been a recipe like this on this forum?

cake mix, 24 ounces of frozen mixed berries and a can of 7 up poured in a pan and not stirred baked at 350 for 40 minutes. fruit first, then the cake mix then soda poured over all.
Does this actually work?
How does it taste?
There are times when I am tempted to try crazy throw back recipes like this just to see what happens.

I did a version of 'dump cake' once. It was tasty but I didn't like the texture. It did not have the 7-Up, though. Interested.

This is called a Dump Cake and has been popular for 50 or 60 years. Yes it works, and if you add cherry to it men will lap it up.
I have made it as a "7-up cake" using peaches and white cake mix and apples and the same, came out great. It is fairly sweet however, so be prepared for that. But it is almost home made, made at home anyway. Give it a shot.

50 or 60 years! I guess it's time to try it! In my youth, cake mix was not allowed in the house but they've improved a lot since then. So no eggs, no oil, no water ... just fruit and seven up. Must try.

Here is the scary thing SS, when I went to the grocery store to buy a cake mix about a month ago there was 1/4 of the mixes there now. They have downsized that aisle as people don't even bake cake mixes, anymore. I, like you had one of these two step recipes I wanted to try. I will see where I put it.
Right, nothing but fruit, cake mix and 7UP, I made a few variations for potlucks and it worked out great. In fact I went up against another one, similar we went head to head a few years ago.

JB yes so many don't bake at home. On FBook, 'tasty' videos are really popular and they are just showing how to bake or cook simple recipes! It's not hard but you must have the ingredients on hand. I hope it makes a comeback.
Will you share your recipe?
My daughter texted me and said 'I have bananas, sugar and eggs - can I make cookies?'
No oatmeal, no flour, no vanilla, no baking soda or powder ... I am bringing her a care package so she and her little one can start baking! I'm surprised she even had sugar. She and I used to bake together long long ago.
I gave her the peanut butter cookie recipe (no flour) but they have wow butter that is a soy product and she said it came out gross - super sweet and sticky. She needs a nut butter! She tried making a banana pancake and only said 'epic fail'.

Still looking but found this one which was great. I may have got it from here, not sure.
7-Up Biscuits
2 cups baking mix (use Bisquick or Krusteaz)
1/2 cup sour cream (or light sour cream)
1/2 cup 7-Up or other lemon lime soda
3 Tbsp butter, melted
1. In a bowl, combine the baking mix and sour cream. Add the 7-Up and combine. The dough will be very tender.
2. Sprinkle some additional baking mix on your working surface and shape dough into a 9 inch square.
3. Cut dough into 9 squares. Use a pizza cutter to do this.
4. Pour 2 of the Tbsp of melted butter into a 9 inch square baking dish. Be sure the butter coats the bottom of the pan.
5. Bake at 450 degrees for 10-15 minutes until golden. Brush tops of biscuits with remaining melted butter. Serves 9

Will this work with root beer? I don't have seven up in stock.

Dump cake is a great name... that's what it ends up looking like.
