I'm looking at setting up gift certificates through Reskey. It looks like you can only sell certificates in predefined amounts (the default is $25 increments). How do you handle it if someone wants to give someone a free night? Tell them to put a little more on the certificate than the room actually costs? How do you handle the small balance left on the card? Keep it? Refund to the one who bought it? I couldn't refund it to the guest who got the gift, because I don't have their CC info.
And how do you handle not having the guest's CC info, in case of damage or something?

I've been selling ResKey GC for years with no problems. Of course our places are all different, but here's how I handle it.
  • Just leave it up to the purchaser how much they want to spend. Don't worry if it doesn't fit the exact amount for the room.
  • My policy is no cash value. We do sell many add-on items, so most of the time if there's a little left, the guests can buy a mug, etc.
  • NO REFUNDS
  • Don't worry about not having the guest's credit card because when they make their actual reservation, ResKey won't take their reservation without a credit card. The guest will choose gift certificate on the reservation form and if there's a balance, it will charge it (or whatever your ResKey policy is)...just like a regular reservation)

Ditto BD. Precisely my summation.

Thanks Momma! Good to know they've worked well for you and Diva. Don't know why I didn't set this up before!

I just went and looked at the dollar increments on my GC page and I've got them set for $5 increments. Check out your settings.

We have our GC set to one amount and it reads, "…Good for one night stay in the summer months or two night stay in the winter months." Depending on when it is used, depends on how much we make off it.
