So glad I found you! I've been trying to find out what would be a good percentage to expect from running everything B&B including events/weddings and building revenue in addition to my innkeepers pay. I know there are a zillion variables... but jump right in! My background is in catering, I am an innkeeper at a Diamond /five star switching it up to a new position which includes weddings and special events but this is a 6 room venue with a bistro on the lake. I have NO IDEA what the norm might be. I think I'll know it when I see it so please toss up some numbers so I don't cut myself short. I'm hearing 3% for booking rooms, 6% on events is that what 30 years in hospitality gets us these days?

Fair enough. Let me put it another way... If you owned and Inn and used it successfully as a wedding and special events venue but wanted to hire a pro to run EVERYTHING for you so you could exit, what might you offer as a fair % on top of a seasonally changing base pay to motivate me to grow the business a the way around? What are others getting paid on top of base salary?

You might need to search for a different site - one more attuned to folks in your position. Maybe a hotel or catering group?
There are possibly 2-3 innkeepers here who hire events out.

It also depends on location.
Example from real life: This goes back at least 30 years but the basics is still true. A young man was hired from a hotel in Wheeling, WV to be an asst. front desk manager at a hotel in Illinois. They offered him $18,000 per year. Wow! Great money - so he went. Then he got hit with reality - it was great money in Wheeling, but an apartment (decent 1 bdr) in Illinois was about $750 per month. Wake-up call came quickly.
