After 20 years of playing baritone sax in the Shinnston Community Band, last night and this afternoon, I played my baritone sax for the last time. As of packing it into its case today, it is now property of the Shinnston Community Band. Come April, I am hoping they will find a place for me in the percussion section (I think I can hit a triangle or crash a cymbals).
Sitting down and playing is NOT the most flattering position (look like a beached whale) but these not so great - but better than nuttin" - photos were taken by Himself today. The other one shows how big The Beast is and one of the reasons I have retired from "blowing my brains out" is my right wrist is getting weaker - and that is what supports the horn while playing, most of the weight on my right thumb. I do love that horn and the sound it makes.

It is hard saying good-bye to something that has been part of so many chapters of your life.

At least hopefully in your new role you will see it being played by its new custodian and see them enjoying it as you have.

Had no idea you were a musician too! So many abilities in one package!

.
But it would have been selfish to let it catch dust in my office. This way it will do what it was made to do, bring enjoyment and pleasure to many.
My alto sax that my parents bought used in the mid 50s is floating around the family - I have no idea who has it now as the grandson I sent it to was made into a clarinet player by the school system (they said he had to play clarinet for a year before he could learn sax - bullcrap!). THAT horn is so old that the case is made of wood with black paper glued to it (like they did with paneling in the 70s).

It's a big sax! Probably as tall as you if it was straighten out. Glad you can still make music and will do a great job smashing those cymbals, etc.
