There is so much more to running a successful inn/b&b than making beds and breakfasts. All this info lately about marketing and websites and seo and adwords and yield management and revenue management and pros and cons of various reservation systems ... makes my head spin. Many (most?) innkeepers do it all not to mention managing upkeep, repair, decor, guest relations and all the rest. Some have staff, some do not.
I just hope newbies and aspirings read through the threads and take note of all the great info here. I admit to not understanding how everything works!

Let's hope everyone reads all that is offered. When I found the forum I went down the list reading posts from prior years, so much useful information I wanted to join the group and not get left out

It's a great resource! Thank you all for your wealth of experience!

Elbow grease doesn't come in a can
Money doesn't grow on trees.
haha - I was maybe five years old when my grandfather told me we needed some elbow grease ... and I went looking for some. :)

I am a (super) newbie, and so glad I found this forum! Yes I am reading through all of these threads :)

One day...this dream will come true!

If I went back and read some of my more outlandish posts, I am sure I would be embarrassed by most of it. TA was just getting started. There were lots of conversations about moving to online rez systems. The main players were all category centric and the big OTA's had not opened up the flood gates yet. We were very fluid and writing our lives as we went along.
Much of the wisdom is time honored and great tips for any era. Some of it has been ground into the sawdust of change. AND I am only talking 8 or 9 years ago.

I didn't know about this forum five years ago, but there was another one associated with an inn-keeping organization that I was religious about reading every single thread. It was invaluable to me, and there's been tons of situations that have popped up that I know how to deal with instantly because I remember something someone posted years ago about the topic.

plus it never hurts to know you are not alone in that particular situation or problem - there is always a "yup when XYZ happened to me this is what we did or didn't do!" I appreciate where I am we do tend to work together and have coffee mornings and gas on the phone - but I also appreciate we are an oddity
One forum was saying a particular street where they are one chap makes false bookings on booking.com with bad card details so it looks like other properties are full so he gets the business!
