Gomez is heading to see his daughter and his mom tomorrow. He is cheaper than a WalMart suit. He looked online to see if a motel had rooms. They did. $63 + tax. He called their direct line and asked for the room he was looking at. Um, they didn't have any rooms that low, where was he looking? Hmmm, right on our site? He read the URL to them. More hmmming. Finally figured out they could give him the room for that price. King room. They sent his confirmation - queen room. He called back. They fixed it. New confirmation. Queen room. I'm skipping this trip. I wish him well.

Just returned from a trip out west. I was both happy and sad to find many motel rooms in the $50 range that were clean safe and comfortable. In addition the motels in the <100 range were very nice with superb bedding and nice offerings for breakfast.
Perhaps I was getting off season rates but still ...

Hi Innkeep,
Our guests do occasionally ask us why we have mugs from another property. :)
Although Hawaii is near the tops in rates across all the price points, we have noticed a softening in rates here at home.
We are headed to Scotland in May and the exchange rate has made those stays quite reasonable.

Yes. He's actually staying at a different place this time. He can walk to daughter's house from a different hotel, but it was more expensive. I'll have to ask if this new place requires having your photo on file and a $200 damage deposit. He sure can pick em.

Among many other places I visited I attended the AHIP meeting in Long Beach on the Queen Mary. There were some interesting talks which my brain is too addled to share right now but will attempt to later. I do remember the former innkeeper who now works for a towel company saying she had her housekeepers clean between toilet and floor with a toothbrush every time. I looked at my toilets and floors when I got home and said nope.
My mom was an Army nurse during WWII and sailed to France on the Queen so I thoroughly enjoyed my stay even when there was no hot water the second day of the conference.

And what was the response of the innkeeper of the Queen re the no hot water? I would wager it was not one our guests expect of us.

I'm guessing that's Twalla with Turkish Towels. I remember her as being active on the old PAII forum when she was an innkeeper. Always signed her posts with "toodles" at the end. I've met her at a couple of innkeeping meetings. She is a wealth of information on getting stains out of towels!

I innsat at my old place while the new owner attended the conference. She said she received 1/2 off the rate for the night with no hot water. Seemed pretty reasonable to me.

I got a shoulder shrug at the b&b we stayed at.
