Hello there, innspiring.com users!

My name's Brian, and I run a bed and breakfast.

I've been contacted by a production company wanting to make a doucmeny about b n' bs. Business has been slow lately and I believe this could be a rather grand opportunity to show my business to the world.

Have any of you done anything similar to the above? If so do you have any tips or tricks for me?

Cheers,

Brian

Skeptic number three is me.  No, I don't think I would do it.  There are too many things that could go wrong here.

 skeptic in the house

What is the company name? Have you been able to find out anything about them and what they've done before?

 Shown where on the web?

Why did they contact you? Did they tell you names of other bnb's or maybe other businesses they've been in touch with?

It seems you've decided to do this and are excited at the possibilities ... but I would be very careful before giving access to my home and business to anyone ... especially someone filming.

Best of luck with this, I hope you'll come back and tell us what happened.

Wow, thanks for all the replies.

I've been emailing the company to try and get a hold some answers to the questions you lot had, this is what I've discovered so far:

1. They wouldn't pay anything. But it's still good advertising.
2. It's going to be shown on the web.
3. They will own the right to the footage, they said they are happy to send over footage for us to use on our website.
4. The film would be just about our b n' b so we would be in all of it, which is fantastic.
5. It would only take up two days and they insisted they don't want to stay overnight.
6. I think the whole film would be about 15 minutes long.

What do you all think? Seem like a great opportunity to me!

Cheers,
Brian

catch no 1 is we own the footage and will cut it any way we see fit - this is the 4inabed way

Sorry another skeptic here. Who in heavens name will see it on the web without a ton of ads. Did they say where? With everything out there if it doesn't s just a slap up on you tube forget it. And who is going to watch a 15 min video on a b&b? Not me. Just sounds like a waste of your time to me

we get a lot from 4 in a bed - this is legit but you have to be very careful in 2 ways.

(1) they expect to come in advance and stay for free with you to film shots etc ie town - this costs you money. - also they do at least 2 days in each location ie you have to give up 8 days revenue or organise for others to run it for you while away.

(2) - can make you look like a crazy person - winning the award is nothing looking like a nice place with nice people running it - is everything - you must be aware if they are following you about that you are "on" all the time. and with 4 you have no control of how they cut it about either

Where does the documentary get shown? Who owns the rights? How long of a sequence do you get? Are you 'in' this film or is it a bunch of still photos set to music? How many other B&B's are in it? What's the cost? Have you verified the company is legit? No complaints about them?

When business is slow we tend to jump at things that may not be in our best interests. But, you never know!

I just got an email supposedly from 'John' at airbnb inviting me to join him in renting a couple of rooms on air every month. He's making money doing this and I can too! Tried to reply to the email and it bounced. I didn't have 'authority' to post on that website. Huh? I was replying to an email, not trying to post on anyone's website. So, a fake invitation wanting me to click that link...

If you hit reply to the email maybe ok, it you clicked on a link in the email, well that would make me nervous. I'm an old chicken, links are not always what they appear to be and clicking can at times allow not so nice folks to load something on our computers. Just as a general rule I don't usually follow links or open attachments if I were not expecting them.

Yeah, we got that one too, but I delated it since airbnb usually have their email done like this; John (airbnb) and this one didn't.

Late last night we got an inquiry for a room for a single man from TX.  The wording was strange but nothing else was off.  Then a couple minutes we got another inquiry from another man from SC.  Some exact wording, word for word, except different name.  We contacted airbnb and they said it was a scammer or predator.  Both came from the same IP account.  They thanked us and said that they would keep an eye on it.

Welcome Brian,

Doesn't sound the same thing exactly, but a number of times I've had a group wanting to "sell" me a video promoting my business. I never went for the idea as having a video and having the right folks view it are entirely different. Now if these folks are just wanting to make a film that doesn't cost you, then maybe no harm if it does not disrupt your business and the final result presents you in a good light, but the benefit to you will depend on if and where the documentary is shown.

Do a search we've talked about this before. Could be a scam and not worth your time, Or they will want more from you then you are willing to give ..Or could be legit? Out of the clear blue??? I would be skeptical! But that is my Glass Half empty personality talking Smiling
