I'm about to hit the 'buy' button on Amzon to buy a 12 count doughnut pan. I'm looking at baked donut recipes using cake mix. Found one that only uses two ingredients; the cake mix and one of 1)two mashed bananas, 2) a can of pumpkin or 3) two cups of applesauce.
I also found one that uses cake mix, 1/4 cup oil, one egg and 1 cup water.
Has anyone used these? I love the idea of homemade doughnuts to alternate with our coffee cakes.

So give the recipe a try and see what you think. You won't be out much if you don't like them. Let us know

I would give them a try. If you don't like the results, sell it on ebay or craigslist.

One of my innsits has one of those pans - they make homemade blueberry donuts (a simple recipe) drizzled with a lemon glaze (lemon and confectioner's sugar). They are easy and quite popular with the guests.

I have made homemade donuts but not from cake mix. They were like little cakes. I will have to look for that recipe.

Here is a recipe I've used ... (scratch) but you may not want to put all that sugar/cinnamon on top ... we frosted them or drizzled icing on them for fun. There are recipes in the box that came with my electric donut maker that only makes 4 donuts at a time ( silly to have yet another appliance begging for counter space, I know, especially since all my stuff is in boxes right now - maybe the grandkids will enjoy it when a bit older and I get back into a big kitchen! ) I remember ages ago my mother had a huge old stove with a well for frying and she'd squeeze out the dough from a donut press! what a yummy smell

Thanks. The pan hasn't arrived yet, but I bought my ingredients over the weekend. Can't wait to try it!

Don't wish to burst your bubble but IMHO doughnuts should be bread based and deep fried. I find the cake based ones dry.

haha. We are not specifically known for our sweets. We always have muffins or a coffee cake, but our breakfast is known for the variety and the savory offerings.
In other words, I am looking for easy and nice to look at.
I got the pan yesterday and plan to make my first batch on Saturday! Pretty excited about it. Maybe overly excited about it. But having fun!

Another thing is to add a coating to them like cinnamon sugar.

Planning on it. And I will be perfecting my glaze recipe and technique.

I tried another batch this weekend and they came out way better.
The recipe called for baking for 8 minutes. Instead, I baked them for 15 minutes. Way better texture. Held together, not sticky. I dipped them in a butter with cinnamon and sugar mix.
I put 12 out for guests and there were only three leftover. (12 guests and there was another coffee cake and pancakes, so that's pretty good.)

Made with cake mix?

Yes. Spice cake mix with three mashed bananas.

I'm on the road again so may have to stop into a kitchen store where I am for the pan. Even tho I agree with HJ that donuts should be fried, we don't have a deep fryer.

I agree too, but if you call them 'round muffins' they just aren't as fun!
