It's 55 here now. Guests are all in shorts. We're freezing here in Arkansas. Well, not literally, but it's 43 this morning and was below 60 every morning this weekend. We had a small convention in town (150 people from all over the state) and none of them even brought long sleeves, much less jackets. It has been in the 80s here for weeks, so this "blackberry winter" cold snap caught everybody off guard.
But I'm really getting interested in this convention thing. (Yes, I just hijacked the cold weather thread.) All sessions were held downtown, and we realized that within a 2-block area downtown we have lecture space for 650 people (spread over 4 different venues) and the largest dining space can feed 250 people at round tables. And downtown has about 400 free parking spaces. So we're going to be inviting other groups to come fill up our downtown. The downtown restaurant was packed all weekend so they are very happy.
Of course, our great shortcoming is lodging. We have about 120 rooms in town, plus about 30 more in a town 15 miles away. Mine is the only downtown lodging, so this meeting had all my rooms booked months ago. No wonder I like conventions now!.
And today (no festival of course) at 10:30 AM it is 56 and sunny. So far next Sunday is predicted near 80, I just hope no rain because some want to come to the Service on motorcycles. That would be appropriate. It's 55 here now. Guests are all in shorts. We're freezing here in Arkansas. Well, not literally, but it's 43 this morning and was below 60 every morning this weekend.
