Just finished my martini and the doorbell rang.
"Do you have a room for a vagabond?"
Me:"Do you have a reservation?" (we were expecting one more checkin.)
"No, just saw your sign." (I notice his companion is eating one of our cookies.)
Find. I showed him our least expensive room, then our most expensive room. He chose the most expensive! Now this is different for us, most people go with the cheap.
I asked their name, wrote it down, their address, she says, "To what purpose?" I hesitated and asked for a hint of where they were from. I wish I'd thought to say, "This is my home, I like to know who is staying here." But she surprised me.
Best part - she says, "Do you serve anything for breakfast that is glutn free?"
Yes, this is the woman who ate one of my welcome cookies before they checked in.
I listed our gf items, fruit, yogurt, gf cereal, gf oatmeal, eggs and bacon. She says, "Is the bacon gf?" I said, "It's meat."

We had a caller from the road who refused to give info. I told her it's the law, I am required to obtain the info from anyone staying.
'to what purpose?'
Geez Louise. How about - well, you're not home and now that I know where you live, I'll send my minions around to clear the place out.
Good call on the bacon.

They were both a little weird. I didn't like them but it was too late to pretend we were full.

Its the law here - I say I have to ask but I have no way of proving anything you put on it true

Update. Just talked to Hubby. They didn't leave until 12:30 after he told them they had to go. (Check out is posted at 11. Plus, he specifically asked me when checkout was.)
Sometimes you have a feeling about people.

The exception that proves the rule - I had a feeling the three young women in the cheap room that sleeps three, that were dressed for a night out would be trouble. I was wrong. I was thinking like an old lady and I regret it.
They were polite, left quietly and early and the room was in fine condition.

Story continues.
As they were (finally!) leaving, she picks up the dispenser of gf cereal, reaches her hand in and pulls out a handful and eats it out of her hand.
buh, buh.

Yep! I've seen that over and over. After you ruin your day waiting for them.

We have become seasoned innkeepers. If they have a reason stated like want to freshen up before a wedding etc we give them an early check in besides that it won't kill them to wait....
