Gotta love 'em. They let themselves in, they take themselves off to their rooms, they know how everything works.
We should skip new guests and just have repeats.

Exactly - like my furniture salesman that I have yet to be here when he arrives. He knows which room is his and which bathroom, to tell me what time to do breakfast when I do get home. The man is EASY. He likes to run on the trail, likes my breakfasts, and remembers I have a charger for his hybrid Porsche.

You should see this with electronic keys. They know what their key to all the doors will be.
But, if they are annuals, eventually they want to know this year's upgrades.... we finally have the deck open this year.

They all have their codes memorized. Sometimes, if they are guests I must speak with, I'll put in something different so they have to ring.

I also program the same door codes for repeating guests. A couple of times I've had them remember the number, recall that they used that same code in the past for a different room, and contact me asking if all the rooms use the same code, so other guests could walk in on them.
That gives me a good opportunity to tell them that I remember they've been here before, so I'm assigning that code to them, and only them, for whichever room they're in. I think they appreciate the personal service, but I wonder how many repeat guests worry that others also know the code, but don't ask me about it.

I tell them that I give everyone their phone number to memorize.

I have to agree, repeat guests are the BEST! This weekend over half the house is filled with repeats. Makes a busy weekend that much easier.

We are aiming to have mostly returning guests as we wind down. This season we have 45% of our room nights reserved by regulars, making our life so much easier! Of course, the fact that we have cut back our season and blocked out time for ourselves, friends and family also makes going into this 28th year of inn keeping enjoyable for us.
Now my big decision is whether to renew my food license next year or let it lapse. This will be the 3rd time I have taken that blasted Serve Safe test and I hate the pressure of all the inspections and fees that go with serving a full, hot breakfast. My returning guests love the full breakfast and I love my returning guests

so I am having to rethink the idea of eliminating the morning cooking and going to a simpler breakfast. I guess I'll just have to suck it up, take the test, pay the fees and continue cooking.
