Well, after four years of getting hammered by our TA reviews, and having difficulty getting reviews of their own, looks like my competitors down the street signed up for TA's Review Ex service.
Today they got two reviews, the first time I ever remember seeing two reviews in a single day from them. Before this, their last review was from March.
I guess if they want to give all their customer information away to TA, go for it. As for me, I'll send out my own "thanks for staying we'd love for you to review us" emails without their help. Yes, theirs are formatted prettier than mine. But I suspect after their guests start getting spammed regularly, the luster will wear off.

I can't even use it, legally. In fact, I would love to find out who does use it here and get the government to BURN THEIR A.... because it's a complete violation of our laws. But TA does so much violations of laws, including that phone call forwarding.

Again, our technique, when we sense that someone will leave a great review, is to ask if they would do one on TA, and then I specifically ask if I may send them the Review Ex link. That can't possibly be illegal if permission is granted. AND there is a REx check box that basically says: Do not Annoy these Folks Again. And REx specifically states they don't SPAM or give away the address. I recently moved up to #2 of 23 in Town (#1 doesn't really belong in our town... another story). Also, we'd gotten knocked down to 4.5 with a silly 3 Review and are now painlessly back to 5, thanks to REx. I also always personalize each REx request, plus I add a line like: If you decide not...no worries.
What's to lose? Have you given it a look-see? Hoping newbies here hear the plus side... Am not a sour grapes kinda gal, instead of blindly condemning something, I'd much rather objectively assess how the system can work for me in a proactive manner.

Darren, your place is so gorgeous. In any season. One look at the pictures and I'd choose you.

And so the game continues... My competitor just used Review Express yielding 3 new reviews, and poof, we are back to third. REx works. C'est la vie.

Update: After the 2 reviews received initially, they've received no other reviews. Presumably, when they signed up, they gave their entire guest list to TA to spam, and netted only two reviews.

Update: Seriously??? When one uses Review EX you are NOT giving your TA list to SPAM. Truth. We have been going back and forth here with our competitors re ReExpress on a daily basis. Either play the game or don't have an alternative universe to explain.
You are doing yourself and EVERYONE else a disservice by perpetuating this myth. What good does this do?

Ha! Ha! Fun Times Arks. Sorry, am finding my Smurf Self perched on my old Soap Box these trying lying days of misspeaking truth and letting that perpetuate. Flower Child that I once upon a time was. Life Lesson: Do not assign blame or complain just because you decide not to participate in a fair game.
