Nothing at all to do with the actual eclipse, just the wacky guests this weekend. One room called at 8:30 pm to let me know the flight was delayed and they'd be arriving after midnight. I asked about a car (as the car rental closes around 11). No, guest has app for car service.
Not sure what time they got in, but well after midnight. Left at 9:30 am after securing room for second night so didn't have to worry about being back for checkout.
Showed back up at 7 am this morning and went to bed. Had to wake him up at 11 to get out of room so we could clean. Hung around waiting for ride sharing app person to show up.
Very nice person, possibly a little too laid back for me.
Other guests smoked like chimneys. Had to open windows just to clean room. Total strip today to get smell out.
Other guest says to me, 'are you ok? You look exhausted!' Great. That was at 8 am.
Everyone fed and out the door at 8:30! Except the guest who didn't get back until 7 am.
I walked home around 9pm last night. Guy standing on sidewalk conversing with himself and the cosmos. Scared one of my guests to the point she didn't know how she was going to get in the house. I guess I'm very comfortable in my own town. Guest hung around down the street until a couple with dogs came along, then followed them to the house.

Yikes! What a weekend! I'd never be afraid in my neighborhood either, but others don't know that. I had a guest compulsively lock the front door. All day. Constantly. We never lock the front door.
Also had a smoker this weekend. Cigars! He was nice enough to ask where he could smoke. But he smoked more than most cigar people.

We got 96% eclipse here. It barely got dim out! Huge disappointment and waste of hype!

See we are just along from the Local eccentric - been that way as long as I can remember - is completely bonkers but harmless - spends his days praying to the sun, sitting cross legged in the street and throwing random things into the trees round and about. Occasionally gives my guests a bit of a shock. We had to warn our new neighbour when she moved in that he's nothing to worry about - however not long after she moved in he decided at 2am to bang the tree outside her house with a hammer - If Id known Id have just gone out and asked him to stop but because she was new she rang the police but with the caveat that they should send a harrogate police officer as they would know who he was and that she knew who it was and so on. Fat heads didn't send anyone who knows about him turned up 45 mins later when he had toddled off to bed launched through my friends front door looking for man with hammer caused a right hoo har! its why its important to have local police officers!

Total eclipse here. Pretty cool!

Thanks for sharing! I was cleaning rooms (with all lights on) during the event. We had two guest that morning who had the 5:30a breakfast in advance of hitting the road, then we had two last night back from the event, full of happy stories. Sounds like all had a good time in spite of the traffic.

We had quite the time here with all our guests. All of the reports were that traffic would be bumper to bumper, restaurants would be overwhelmed and people could run out of gas. Armageddon! So my guests didn't have to deal with finding a restaurant on Sunday night, I offer a simple spaghetti buffet with salad, garlic bread and an eclipse cake for nominal charge. Then in the morning, I packed up breakfast and coffee into picnic baskets and we all met at 5:30am to be sure we could fight the crowds to go to our viewing location which was only a few miles away.
No Armageddon happened and no one was on the roads in our area. Amazing. We got to our site and tailgated breakfast. A great time was had by all, but I was totally exhausted by the time we got back to the inn. We feared fog, but it wasn't a major issue for us.
A very successful lifetime event.

Wonderful story! Your guests will remember it forever.

We did a promotion on eclipse day where we sent out a press release and mentioned on social media that we're in the path of totality for the 2024 eclipse. Mentioned we normally only take reservations in advance, but on this one day we'd take reservations for three days April 7-9, 2024.
Had three takers.

We were just outside the total eclipse zone and I had a few people stay with me en route to, or home from traveling to view it in Illinois. They all liked my place and said they'll be back. Yeah, right. Heard that one before. I won't hold my breath waiting!

Cool! I posted it on our FB page and got over 700 views. But, we're not in totality here. So, no interest other than reading the article.

Yeah, it was as if it was just a cloudy afternoon but it was cool to see with those weird glasses!

My brother watched the total eclipse from near his place. He said the difference between a total eclipse and a partial eclipse is like the difference between lightning and a lightning bug.
