House next door is a family friendly summer rental. The current week's tenants were having a lovely time on the back patio. Kids screaming, fire pit going, one particular woman laughing loudly.
We tried to sleep through it. Even closed the windows. At 11:30PM, hubby walked to their front door and told them we and our guests would like them to quiet down a bit.
At 11:45 PM, we called the cops.
I don't like to kill a fun summer night, but I do like to sleep. And we did throw the 'guests' card. Our inn has quiet hours of 10 - 7. I think that's universally accepted.
Your take?

If you're a good neighbor, then they should be.
We tell our wedding parties they have to end at 10pm because we don't want to disturb the neighbors. We cite a "town noise ordinance" even though there isn't such a thing. We just don't want to upset our neighbors.
We know they'll feel the same way.

Quite right. It's ok for them, it's you that's going to get the criticism on TA and then it's going to look like yours is a noisy place.

Ugh! How awful. Any comments from your guests?
This is why I am facing resistance about turning my property into a b and b ... neighbors are worried about noise ... unruly party guests ... and also more traffic. I politely mentioned that I would be living on site, unlike a house in the area that is 'aired out' with no owner onsite when guests are there. The objectors were not comforted by this.

If we make the police notes tomorrow, I'll be sure to post it for you in the police notes thread.
The homeowners once told me to call them if the renters are making too much noise. I didn't want to bug them at 11:45 PM.

oh! If the homeowners told you to call, I'd call. Yes at that hour. Owners first. The police as last resort. Maybe the owners would call the renters and warn them.
I hope it turns out okay.

None that I've heard. But, you know, they don't always say anything.
5 or 6 extra cars a day is not 'traffic.' No one wants anything new. Maybe offer to build a fence around your parking area so they don't have to worry about 'traffic.'
And tell them people don't book B&B's to party. They book B&B's to relax.

The owners of the property could be holding a security deposit from the renters, and depending on their contract and relevant state law, might threaten to withhold the deposit from the noisy renters -- potentially a greater incentive for them to quiet down than the police showing up... ?

The cops in this town love this stuff. It's not a big deal.
We did make the paper. "A noise complaint was filed on Street Road."
