Speaking of construciton - bathrooms - any tips before we dive in?

We are gutting two bathrooms and doing a floor in a third over the winter.
We like peel and stick linoleum because it looks good, is easy to replace and is cheap. But I have never been a 'brand name' type of person. As an example, I buy shoes at Pay Less. And I'm happy there.
Anyway, what do you recommend for the bathroom floor? I don't want hard tile because it is hard when you fall or drop a glass. It can be slippery. It can be cold.
But I don't want to look cheap.
Ideas?

We have tile in 6 bathrooms. Linoleum in 1. Peel and stick squares in another.
When we replaced one tile floor we went with smaller tiles because the larger ones cracked.
We've replaced the floor 3 times in one bathroom! That one had peel and stick squares that moved a lot depending on the humidity. We ended up with a big gap the got filthy. That's the linoleum floor now.
Had the same problem with the peel and stick in our own bathroom, but we had replacement tiles so we fixed it.
Small ceramic tiles do work and look good. Less likely to crack or chip.
If you go with the peel and stick get a busy pattern!

Build a drain in the middle of the bathroom. I know, it sounds stupid, until a guest plugs up your toilet or lets the bath overflow... and then you understand.
Also a walk-in shower is a nice have. You build the shower so that you walk in, no door needed. We like glass, but it can be expensive.

I am also working on bathrooms. 1 full bath, 1 half bath. I am looking at Life Tile Slate tiles ... a rubber 'tile' that looks like slate. by rubber flooring inc. The video for installation looks really easy.
I saw it at a friend's home who did an inlaw apartment with wheelchair access and the wheelchair rolls right over it with no problem. It feel soft underfoot but looks like tile.
Flooring is one area I don't want to skimp on. I've ordered the free samples so I can see how it holds up to my own tests.

Boy, rubber tile sounds good! I bet it cuts down on noise transmission, too.

The more I look the more I find. Which can get to be too much. But I am also looking at Stone Flex Tiles and Slate Flex Tiles which offer a lot more pattern and color options. https://www. rubberflooringinc. com/ garage/stone -flex-tiles.html I love the look of slate tiles but living in a house with real slate floors ... smash when things get dropped on them. The rubber roofing tiles that look like slate are cool. If the floors look like that it would be nice.
I wish we had boxed up all the slate tiles at our old house and brought them here. So many ways to use them.

I've installed all types of flooring at one time or the other, ceramic is nice, but more work and more expensive and you need a good base with no movement to avoid cracking or working the grout out of the joints, for the motel I have had the best success using vinyl sheet flooring, the nicer grade has a sort of foam backing and folds and works much easier than the type with a stiff backing, both types fold easier if heated slightly with a hair dryer. My bathrooms are on the small side so I can purchase a length of the 12 foot width and cut it in half getting flooring to 2 baths. Glad to share more detail if anyone is looking at doing this as do-it-yourself.

When we did our first bathroom we bought a white lino with a tiny blue tile details. It has a rough texture, we thought that would be good for non-slip.
Big mistake, when you mop the floor it works the dirty into the textured surface, it builds up over a couple of weeks and because the lino is white it's really obvious and looks grubby.
Every few weeks I have to get down on my knees with a bottle of surface cleaner and a scrubbing brush.
Needless to say all the other bathrooms have a black, tiled effect lino.

We have hardwoods in the bedrooms and as we redo the bathrooms, we are putting matching vinyl plank flooring in. Super easy to install and cleans just like regular vinyl, but looks like hardwood. It goes right over your existing floor, snaps together and if you have an issue you can just replace a section. We got ours at L O W E S

In our new house we have the ceramic tile that looks like hardwood. I love it - it has enough texture that it doesn't feel slippery when wet, and the dark grout blends with the tile. We did put an electric radiant mat under the floor which helps it not feel cold. That is a great feature although for so many bathrooms in a B&B it may be prohibitive. We only have two bathrooms now. But I truly hate tile flooring - the rest of the house is hardwood - and I am surprised how much I like this stuff.

That sounds great! If we decide to redo the bathroom floors we might look at that product. It goes right over tile, too? With the proper underlayment I would guess.

And your house is lovely! Altho, I don't think it had walls or floors when we saw it in person!

If you have showers and are redoing them, we redid all of ours to be curtainless step-in showers. What a difference it makes cleaning!

In my parents house we put in flooring that looks like wide wooden plank floor. Its totally water-proof vinyl that comes in big roll from Lowes. It has a real feel of wood with grain and knotholes…. We love it! Have it in one bedroom and a bathroom. Here is a link I think it is.

As long as it is level, my understanding is that it can be put over almost everything!

Not this specific pattern, but I've used this type of material in my bathrooms and also in a couple of rooms at my daughter's house, it applies easily and seems to hold up well. Lay it out and cut to fit, then roll back to expose half the floor, spread a type of mastic that will release and carefully roll that side back onto the glue and repeat with the other side, in the baths I usually caulk the edges to seal.
