I read a review of one of the very best B&B's in town. 2 eyes. "Very disappointing"
One comment stood out for me. "The pictures on the website made it look like a large, roomy and light room. it wasn't. It was a very small, cramped and dark once the blinds were down."
Dark one the blinds were down???? In other words, really good blinds that kept the light out!!!
Who complains that the window blinds make the room dark????
I thought it was funny. And I'm itching to respond. I hope the innkeepers point that out when they do respond.

So, not only are the blinds room darkening, they also are room shrinking.
Good grief. My rooms are tiny. So, yeah, with the blinds down it's claustrophobic in them!
PS - that's what the light switch is for!

Most B&B's I've been in have small bedrooms. That would be part of my response. Just a mean review.

Do you think they meant that when the darkening shades were down, there wasn't enough electrical lighting in the room? I've found that a lot of older places have very dim lighting from lamps. It's especially important that there be bright lights for reading.

Maybe. But then why not say there weren't enough bright lights in the room?
Sounds more like someone used a wide angle or fish eye lens to make the room look bigger than it is.
We had a guest ask us for another lamp the other day. First time ever. There is no good way to add a lamp where they wanted it. But, they made a good point about needing one there.

Got to be careful with those fish eye pictures. Or standing on furniture to get an impossible angle. We want to show our rooms to their best advantage. Of course we do! It's why photographers take hundreds of photos in a photo shoot and choose the very best. But we do have to be sure the pictures aren't deceptive.
That being said ... I WANT a dark room for sleeping. But might need brighter lights for just being in the room ... and maybe it's something to consider. That might be a good way for the innkeeper to respond.
SUGGESTIONS. Remember asking for suggestions for "how we can make your next stay even better?'
Other than asking for free wine and cheese, a full on Irish Breakfast (? because I have red hair, this guest assumed I'd make one) and a date, mostly I got asked for more lighting. One place I hadn't even thought of and got a light in there right away.

I told her it was a great idea and said we would look at a way to permanently install a light there. But, it's in front of a window and next to the 'valet' where guests hang clothes and stow their bags. It would spend more time being knocked down than being used.
I'm looking at a wall sconce. Out of harm's way. It's finding a way to plug it in that will be the tough one.
