Couple checked out at 11 and then got another cup of coffee. No problem. We are easy. They open the laptops and make themselves at home. 3 hours, several cups of coffee and a basket of fruit later, I asked hubby who they were. He says, are they still her?

Here!!!! Are they stil here!,, Not 'her.'
Cant edit the first post in a thread.

It happens to us from time to time. They usually ask. But when they eat the fruit, I get pissed.... but I would have calmly removed it after I noticed it was still out. Tea would still be out, but coffee... nope, you want a pot, you pay.

Gomez won't put the coffee out if we have lingerers. I prefer people to stay outside if they're staying longer. I do ironing in the main area of the house, so I am standing in front of all the amenities. It's awkward, but it's what you get if you don't leave.
It seems presumptuous to me. I felt guilty hanging out at a huge hotel in Vegas until 6pm!

Had a couple of cases of this last year, I basically (politely) threw them out.
One woman checked out and then said "I'm just going to sit in your dinning room to use my computer", when I asked how long for she said "wont be more than 1 or 2 o'clock". Sorry, no. If you wanted business centre facilities you should have booked a hotel and paid hotel type prices. She said "But I've Got To Work!!", Tough!
Another man checked out, but then when I came back he'd dumped all his luggage by the front door and taken up residence in the dinning room where he'd cleared a table and spread all is papers out around his computer. Again I asked how long and he said 2-3 hours. No, no, no, no, no, no. This is my home, I don't want you hanging around the house for the next 3 hours and I'm certainly not serving coffee......... what happens if you want to loo, you're not using our private bathroom and all the guest en suites are being cleaned.

This is hard and may be where we differ.
I can see someone wanting to stay after checkout and the big problem is for how long and use of the restroom.
I could be flexible because I had a second common area someone could sit in but I would bust right in with my vacuum because, yes, common areas have to be cleaned, too. But I'd remove the snacks and actually took the keurigs into the kitchen saying I had to clean them .... I let someone fill a 'to go' cup, take one snack, and then pulled them
It's not the same as a hotel lobby and guests don't understand.
Much nicer if they ask you
My big aggravation was having the little hotel across the road without free wifi send his guests over to me to use mine. ha! He was really resistant to the internet and did everything by paper, phone and snail mail. So I was sure to have rack cards and things out and they had to login with my guest wifi whenever this happened. I was always super nice, hoping to snag his guests for next time. Rarely happened.

Rare, but happens: late afternoon flight, waiting for in-town family, whatever. I can accommodate, but I need them out of rooms by noon and they can stay in guest lounge as long as they want, since it's completely out of my activity area. And there is a common area guest toilet by the front door. (Warning aspirings: if you have a separate place for people to pee, your life will be way better. Nice people with full bladders aren't .. nice).

You make me appreciate our floor plan, guests step into our living room office to register, but all guest rooms face a common porch, house and rooms have the doors that lock when they shut. Someone could remain on the porch or in the garden sitting area and probably still have wifi, but on their own for a bathroom

Do people not remember McDonalds everywhere has free wi-fi - and news flash - coffee too!!!.

there are no McDonalds in this town.
.
We are a small town too. The local library has free wifi and bathrooms. Wifi is accessible from the street out side the library 24/7.

So true!

There was no McDonalds, no DD, no gas station, no public restrooms, no library, no cell towers, no cell service, no coffee shop, no wifi (except with me) nada for miles. Going the speed limit, about 30 minutes to the gas station with restroom. Sometimes the general store opened their restroom to the public, most of the time they did not. The little restaurant wouldn't let you in to use their restroom unless you were dining there. And that's if they were open. There was an ice cream shop - but no restroom and no wifi. No public restroom up at the lighthouse. Travelers would show up at the door just out of their minds ... I get it.
So ... plus side of being on the coast at the end of the road if you were just too tired to even think about turning around and driving back for miles and miles, you came to my door and asked if I had a room. Negative side, I had to share my own bathroom with people desperate to use one. I just had to.
I don't know what the new owner did when remodeling, but I would've put in a tiny rest room somewhere near the library just inside the front door. She added a bar/cafe in the barn on the property, I assume with restroom, and is making lots of money there.
