So, I'm running errands today. Walk across the street and see these people coming out of the road across from me. They look lost. I ask if they are looking for anything.
They point at my house: do you know if that place is any good?
Me: best place in town! (Then I laughed and told them I own it.)
They were looking for a place to stay. But, they were coming away from another inn. I asked if they were staying there. No, no one was home. I said that was ok then because I wouldn't poach you out from under another innkeeper.
They came back with me and booked a room.

I was once walking through the village and a car pulled up, they wound down the window and ask me "do you know where the p***** house is?". I gave them directions but didn't say who I was.
The funny thing was once they'd found the house they decided to go and have dinner so by the time they came to check in I was back and answered the door. She said "Why didn't you say anything?", I just said "I thought it'd be funnier not to".

We have a conference center in my town all locals are trained from birth to return people with lanyards round their necks to it as there is a constant supply of them wandering about all over. My town is horrendous for street signs - all over the shop up, down street level, behind hedges etc

We have a lot of people who drive in to our property just to check it out (or maybe they are lost?). We always try to connect with them, even if we have to flag them down as they turn around and start to drive out... Sometimes they are locals who just never knew we existed, or they are visitors staying at some other place in town looking for a different place for their visit the next year, or they are past guests or employees who happen to be passing through reminiscing about their time at our place 40, 50, or 60 years ago... We always offer a brochure, and actually do get some future reservations from these drive-by visits.
