There are days I don't know why I bother being helpful and polite.
Guest calls to make reservation, carries on weird conversation. Says someone else will be calling for another room.
Says other person will be a family of 4. I recommend a room that sleeps 4.
Second person calls for room. Leaves message. I return call and say they should call us back to reserve room. No return call. As they were a family with kids in trying to be helpful so they get the room for 4.
Give them another day, no call. I call back at what I (silly me) assume will be an after dinner, before kids are asleep, after work, before TV watching commences time.
Get guest on phone, ask if they'd like to make the reservation. Yeah, sure, but hurry up, we're eating dinner.
They proceed to rush thru details, getting snarkier as they go.
By the time they arrive, unless they all cancel, I will have forgotten these calls. But right now? Why do I bother being polite?

You're very kind to call folks back after giving them a day to reach you, and you were being thoughtful about the time you chose to call them back. We all know guests never call us or arrive at the B&B during our dinner! If I don't hear from someone, I just shrug & figure they changed their minds. I don't think guests realize that their lack of phone etiquette is off-putting and gives us a bad impression before we even meet them. You're a kinder innkeeper than me by forgetting about their bad manners. I make notes in my res system that they were $#%&@ on the phone, so I can brace myself for their arrival.

Yeah, I'd rather forget they were idiots on the phone and hope for the best later on. My guess? They are going to keep hoping the hotel they wanted to stay at has a cancellation. I may hope the same thing.

Had a guest call to cancel a non-refundable reservation, we refused, since it was non-refundable. And I just decided to forget about it, except that I figured they may be a no show. Nope, they arrived and everything was fine. Sometimes it's easier to forgive and forget that they acted like donkeys.
