Excellent. I cannot post it - I am in downtown with no vistas from the rooms.

Wow talk about generalizations! All bed and breakfasts are located at least 30 minutes away from anything cool and exciting?? And no one ever gathered to play jeapordy in my common room while they ate milk and cookies ... that’s a scene from Groundhog Day and Bill Murray was eating popcorn.
Really??
I’m surprised you guys love this article because i was trying to fight the idea that my place was like staying at grandma’s house. And therefore, boring (except for the sex ... hopefully).

Excellent because it is not the usual "I hate B & Bs" crap. I rolled my eyes at a lot of it - but I do not have working fireplaces either.

Right about the generalizations. We have wood stoves not fireplaces, but the tone was positive overall, even the grandparents stuff.

Liked it because it was positive and full of the good stuff. Being pampered, learning to relax.
On FB I intro'd with, "I hesitate to call us, 'elderly', but we do love to pamper our guests."

Thank you for sharing an interesting blog. I'm not A grandma, but WoW that article is heavy on the swearing! I appreciate some of the sentiments, but we're an urban inn with bars and restaurants within blocks of our B&B. Also, "not A grandma" so I'm not coddling guests like they're my grandkids who don't visit often enough. About 25% of my guests are old enough to be my grandparents, 25% are old enough to be my parent, 25% are close to my age, and 25% are younger than me. No matter what their age, my guests are here to explore the city and maybe visit distant relatives.

Most of our guests are too old to be my grandkids. However, fewer and fewer are old enough to be my parents. None are old enough to be my grandparents (who would be at least 110).
Every year, tho, the grandchildren thing gets closer to possible!

My oldest grand is 34 and his brother is 31. Youngest is 5.

I was looking forward to your comments. Of course its not about us, but about the guest perspective. Our inn guests are usually in our general age bracket, but we're also ten years older than when we started. :)
Our vacation rental and Air guests skew younger - Millennials rule. When I look in the mirror - I can now see a very grandmotherly face looking back, so I'll keep baking cookies, providing the lunch and dinner options, and generally playing the part of the grandma they could think fondly of, minus the curmudgeon and too many doilies factor.
Please understand this is a tongue in cheek with an underlayment of facing a reality post.
:)

Oh, I didn't take offense at all! Each of our inns are unique in their own way. Some folks are "destination inns" located in the country, where others are in cities and compete directly with hotels. I've stayed at B&Bs that didn't have TVs in the room (I loved it, my husband went stir crazy), and we've stayed at ones that were heavy on the doilies and roses décor. I understand that many people have a somewhat dated opinion of B&Bs, too.

What I have always said is if you don't like the decor in the B&B you have booked its YOUR OWN FAULT - everyone has a web site and masses of pictures and reviews and their pictures - if you want modern book modern - if you want traditional book traditional - read up on the place and book what you want!
