I have been renovating a house and buying all sorts of things. Kitchen fixtures, appliances, paint, you name it. Checking out reviews before buying and trying to choose carefully and some of the reviews are over the top or nasty or don't make sense.
Someone told me about fake spot . com (no spaces)
You can use it to check out reviews on amazon, yelp and trip advisor ... so, yes. You can dig a little deeper into those glowing reviews for places you've stayed or eaten at that don't match up with your experience at all.
You might want to access this site.

Meh. Checked on my place and a nearby competitor. Says pretty much the same thing, suggesting only half the reviews are valid. Several of the reviews listed as coming from potentially unreliable reviewers are from customers I know. All in all, a pretty useless site.

That's interesting, Darren. I was hoping it would be helpful. Looking at repeat used language by a reviewer, I would say that people tend to say the same things over and over again which would not necessarily make them unreliable. But I also have seen some who post reviews that seem to have an axe to grind who slam every place they stay or pick on little things. That would be helpful to know as well.

Tried my and a competitors TA page. I got a B and a couple of reviews flagged, my competitor only got a C with red warnings about content quality and "may be some deception". I find that hard to believe knowing the owners.
I then put in the local Inn who are A rated, but one of the unreliable reviews at the bottom of the page shows the text from one of MY business page reviews. That shows how reliable their system is.

We have confirmed personal reviews yet that site flags them as potentially fake. The problem now is are travellers relying on the duff information?

Unrelated to B&B reviews - Has anyone else noticed products on Amazon that have over 1000 reviews and the reviews are obviously fake? Here's one I fell for: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KCFAZTE/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1
The product was ok, but it wasn't amazing or perform miracles. Thankfully, it was under $20. I bought it a few years ago & I think it had around 1000 reviews, but now it has over 3000 reviews?!? Ever since, I've become suspicious of any product that has a really high number of reviews. I guess some companies must pay people to post hundreds of reviews for them. You'd think Amazon would catch on.
Btw this product's reviews received a C grade on fake spot. It only detected 33.7% low quality reviews. I don't know how fake spot detects this, but their analysis contained this statement: Our engine has detected that Amazon has deleted and scrubbed reviews from this listing. We approximate total reviews deleted to be 3064.

This engine doesn't work... I have a D... Maybe it can't handle reviews in other languages?

Gave us a B. They found one of our TA reviews to be suspect in their minds based not just on what that reviewer wrote about us, but also based that reviewer's other reviews as well. Pretty sure it is a valid review. But gosh was the program ever slow!

I found that on the results page if you put another url in the top left field and hit "analyse" it would run to about 10% done and then stop, it did that 3 times. Hit refresh and it does the job relatively quickly.

So based on what you've been saying about looking at reviews you are sure are legitimate that this site is saying possibly fake, I sent them an email. Maybe they need to be reviewed, as well.

It definitely picked out good reviews and said they might be fake. Did not pick out the fake reviews. What was interesting was that it did mine immediately. I then ran thru the other B&B's in town and each one had the message 'this is new please wait...' implying my stats had already been run before.
So, how did we do? B
The competition? C and D.
The more analyses I did the slower it ran. By the time I got to the last one (5) it had locked up. It seemed to hung up on one reviewer. I tried a different browser, same problem with the one reviewer. If I had to guess? The more reviews you have the more likely it's going to say a large percentage are fake.
Not really sure I'd trust a website loaded with random ads anyway.

You can also grade the results right on the page.

Yes ... but I can't give feedback on your results. Just mine ... if I know the truth.

Ah, mkes sense! I didn't notice that part!

Just now, I just used it against my stuff on TA. I am 100% certain that my 39 reviews on TA are genuine/authentic .......BUT FakeSpot says only 60% are reliable.
Anyway ........ it also says, "Our engine has determined that the review content quality is low" What does that mean ???

Well we failed on this site and I know for a fact that every one of our TA reviews is valid. We have many repeat guests and have a 5* rating gathered over a period of 14 years and last time I looked we were #1 in our town, although we do not have the most reviews because we are much smaller than the inn with the most reviews. So I would not give this rating site the time of day...totally bogus as far as I am concerned.

Did not waste my time looking. I do not live or die by reviews. Do not give a rip - have a few middling but most are great. Whatever - they are subjective so there is no real standard to go by anyway.

Sounds like the site takes the easy way and just makes stuff up. Either that or they have a VERY poor algorithm.
