This could fall under cry.
My real estate tax bill arrived today. It did not strike me as relevant when opening, but Himself's name was NOT on it (I did not do anything at the Assessor's Office when he died since peoperty was in BOTH our names). What DID strike me in the wallet was that the Homestead Exemption has diaappeared. I now have a rax bill on my residence portion of the house.
When Himself filed for the Exemption, it was on his disability as he was not old enough in 1999 for the age exemption. Unbeknowst to me, I now have to go to the Assessor's Office with proof of my age to get the exemption for the 2019 tax year and DO have to pay the tax bill I received today.
The lady at the Assessor's Office was nice and helpful (even called back to seeifperhaps it should be listed 50/50 instead of 2/3 biz & 1/3 residence - no, it is listed correctly) but said I have to pay this year. Sigh.

That's not right. They should have sent you a notice. Did you check the statues? Is there a requirement to notify you of change?

As a selectman in our town, I can tell you most municipalities have an appeals process. You should investigate what board in your town handles appeals. They don't always succeed, but you don't ask, you don't get.

It is County, not City (I am City Clerk in my City). The lady in the Assessor's Office is checking on the letter that was supposed to have been sent - regardless, I did not get it. so now, I will go to the Courthouse and prove that I am OLD for the 2019 year. It was just that it was a shock to the system.
