We all have heard of the poor widow woman who takes in boarders & laundry and the Irish washer woman.
Had a guest in the Gillum last night so was cooking breakfast today. My single guy was off for the weekend so he went back to Mississippi to visit his Granpaw but the couple have today off. I told them what time the guest chose for breakfast and if they came down (tell me before you go to bed please) you are welcome to join him. They did and in the course of conversation said they had to find time to do laundry (they work 14 hour days) and had heard of someone who does laundry twice a week for $70 a week.
After breakfast I talked to them - they are going to pay me to do the laundry - and this week they decided I should get $100. So this Irish widow now has boarders and is a washer woman. (My water bill came the other day and I still did not use the minimum that I pay for no matter what. So I do not think it is going to impact my bills - other than detergent - to do it)

It wasn’t until I had been innkeeping for a couple of years that I remembered (duh) my Irish grandmother ran a boarding house during the Great Depression.

Gee, I wish they paid me that much for washing. I do a load for $10. I should charge more. We don't get a water bill.

These are not "ordinary " guests, the work the pipeline as in creating it.They work for different companies on different pipelines (we have at least 3 going in in this area right now). All 3 are in the Environmental sections - Austin works in the mud putting things back to they way they should be and Alan & Paula drive the trucks that haul workers and equipment up & down the hills.
Paula said she has to keep the truck in front of her in sight because the angle is so strrp she cannot seeover the hood of the truck. She sayus the mountain is right there on obne side and the ditch for the pipe is on the opther- it is NOT forgiving of mistakes. Thankfully, their jeans are NOT full of mud. No worries of mud-clogged sewer lines.
